Zweihammer
Since my life is little more than work and sleep this past six months, I find more time to peruse classifieds and the bay of E for items I can make myself think I need. For the lifelong projects I already have or the builds I may get to in the afterlife. I came across a Craigslist ad for “1986,87,88 GSXR 1100 engines” for 300 bux. The pics showed a pair of engines, two extra barrels and a box of sleeves. The alternator mounts were blocked off and they had extra oil lines. They were over 125 miles away and I figured they would be gone before I could make time to get there. So I didn’t contact them. A couple weeks later and I see the same ad, but dropped down to 200. I figured it was a sign and texted them, still thinking I wouldn’t get them. Long story short, he responds the next day, we call back and forth and I commit to getting them the next day. He texted that night to let me know if I wasn’t coming, let him know, as his phone was ringing off the hook, but I was first in line. I assured him I was coming. Six hours round trip, and 260 ‘Murican pesos later (200 for the parts, 60 for fuel), I have these two 1052s to go with my two powerscreen 1127s. My question for the experts, before I tear into these, what should I be looking for? What does and doesn’t exchange between the oil boilers? What are the good parts? I have picked up a Bandit barrel and head, machined them for a set of Busa pistons and have a base spacer I intended to put on my 1127. Would they work on these engines as well? I am not sure what is going on with these barrels on these two, either. The stock sets seem to be the two loose ones, but the ones one the engines have no markings. The back story I got from the seller was these were the back up engines for a friends dwarf racer (just like my 1127!), the fellow sold the racer and most of his worldly goods about five years ago to move to the Philippines with a girl he met online and was never heard from again, by anyone. The seller needed them out of the hangar he had shared with the guy. So, no history. Anywho, I feel I got a deal, even if both engines need work. Looking for opinions 3 Quote Link to comment

Gixer1460
Jammy git - only reason to put those type of barrels on is BIG bore pistons - anything from 83 - 86mm dia. Seeing as a BIG piston will cost nearly $100 you stole those! Quote Link to comment

I knew the good stuff would be here. Still haven’t done anything but move them into the shop. Noticed the topmost bolt boss for the alternator is ground off both, one engine has never had numbers on the case, one has a broken mount boss on the bottom. Looking down the intakes, it looks like someone may have blended them some, they seem to match the heads nicely. Both heads look like dot heads, correct? Any benefits to using one on a turbo application? Don’t they up the CR, typically? Quote Link to comment

But, his buddy, just one day, started offering to sell everything he had to people around him. Seemed happy, apparently. Two weeks later, he’s gone. His family called the guy a few times for a couple years, as no one heard from him again. The guy thought he was a decent enough mechanic to work on planes with him, so I don’t think I bought junk. I thought they’d be worth the squeeze in parts, alone. As I had just paid more than that for a stock B12 head and block. 1 Quote Link to comment
dupersunc
yeah both dot heads. the boss on the alternator mounts have been groin to clear fcr accelerator pumps I'd guess. 1 Quote Link to comment

Optimal CR for big engine & big nitrous use is about 11:1 if you can control the timing with a degree of accuracy 1 Quote Link to comment

I am taking what little spare time I have from work and swapping out the entire drivetrain from my wrecked GTI to it’s doppelgänger. I am without a car of my own, right now, and winter is coming. I can be a puss about riding in the rain too much. Also trying to tell myself the unfinished streetfighter ‘87 GSXR1100 with an SSSA and a radial USD front someone has advertised nearby on Craigslist for $850 is the last thing I need. I have a sickness. Quote Link to comment

Zweihammer
I’ve been deliberating since this ad was a couple hours old, almost two weeks ago. Hoping someone would save me from myself. If it is still up this afternoon I don’t think I can wait any longer, it’ll be a sign from above. Here’s what is advertised. 1 Quote Link to comment
ElBlandito
As a guy from across the pond who never sees things like this for sale locally, you just have to buy it. Easily make your money back in parts if you change your mind later! 1 Quote Link to comment
