Was going to fit and time the cams today, but the sun came out so I went to the pub instead.

Not a total loss then (y) I got dragged to b&q.....at least it was raining outside

So firstly I decided the bare metal frame wasn't going to work, it was going rusty sat in a warm dry workshop despite coating it with wd40.

So the frame has been powdercoated Dorset racing grey.

Also had @Gsxrsammachine up some billet engine mounts for me, and I've had some oil cooler mounts water jet cut too.

Spent the last week or so building a new engine based on a cheap bandit 1200 that had been dismantled by a monkey and thrown in a crate. I've repaired and painted the cases, replaced all the crank bearings, seals and gaskets and cam chain, it will be topped of with an 81mm Wiseco kit, an Upperton big valve head an Kent suz1 cams. 20191228_152128.thumb.jpg.16126f30a1609a6d2140f06de8f1acbe.jpg

Should be ready to go in the frame next week.  Need some oil drain tubes before I can build the top end up. currently fabricating some alloy versions.

Would you fancy making some more of the ally oil tubes ?? :) @dupersunc

Mark at RCD is currently swappping out tge knackered eccentric chain agjusters for some lovely conventional adjusters. Taken the opertunity to extend it 25mm to allow for the extra power.

Ok, recap time...

frame bought in 2018, mid 2020 it was a roller of sorts.  Covid hit, decided on some life changes, shut my workshop where i was building the bike, then sold my house. Bikes went into storage for 3years whilst I bought a new house and built a new garage. Late 2023 and I emptied my  storage container and moved my bikes and tools into the new workshop.

So over last Christmas I picked up this project again.  Even when a bike looks half finished, it's still deceiving, bike need far more than met the eye as I'd rushed to get it to a rolling status. Bike was stripped back to a frame and the motor build up properly, dialed in and buttoned up.

To fit the engine, I had to make some spacers for the engine mounts, did i say some, I meant lots.  Projects like these need lots of one off bit, lots. My little boxford lathe is quite capable, but it takes time. there are lot of spacers on this bike. Plus every bolt head on the engine has been turned down to save weight and look nice.

One of the approx 25,000 spacers, plus a shift support supplied by @Kamikazeand made by RCD

13.thumb.jpg.c2fa5071ca7c42a7a27295091d58c187.jpg

Next wiring. Figuring out what the fuck you had in mide when you half made a wiring loom 3 years previously is a head fuck.  we're 90% there now. just need to decide where to mount the battery and mount a switch panel on the dash to finish terminating the loom.

Rear sets machined up by @TriGGer to take Harris foot pegs.  toe pegs were made as a favour, but not convinced by their looks.  Clutch actuator set-up also shown. works a treat.

10.thumb.jpg.b47171afeb7273aa08e469467365cb44.jpg

reason for replacing original Harris rear sets because they didn't work with this cute little Harris M/C. Ignore the little red spacers behind the mounts, they're temporary. More machining required

14.thumb.jpg.51af1815e36b75d0f2ceb61c8f06bd85.jpg

Another reason for the new rear sets is the exhaust mounting.  Earlier in the thread you can see a long silencer Racefit system, this was made for a GSXR1100 slingshot, it fits, but on right, so another Racefit System, from an XR69 was purchased with a stubby can that mounts of the back of the rear set. looks far more in keeping with the look I want.

Slight issue with the exhaust.   :/   Not sure how I missed this, but it was never going to fit no matter where a sat the engine,  the front down tubes are bent differently, left to right for the original GPZ engine.  An hour gently dressing the header has it now fitting. a bit more work require to get a little more clearance.

19.thumb.jpg.e704196127aeb1506d88e2110d64183d.jpg

Now I've spent  a lot of money on this project over the years, and want it to be a real quality build. One thing that has bugged me is the bodywork.  I have set of race XR69 bodywork, and a Harris seat unit option also, and frankly the stuff is ok for a race bike, but the look and quality real aren't cutting it, and I want the bik eto be more road focused. yes it will see the track, but i will get more use out of it on the road.

So a chance facebook find of a NOS Harris Magnum 3 fairing couldn't be passed up. not for £50.  I've seen these fitted to an F1 before, infact the Mag 3 is quite similar.  Undecided on seat unit.  Harris or Yoshi XR55?

Fairing came without a screen. Luckily the excellent Skidmarx are just down the road. Wandered into there factory with the fairing in hand and asked if they had anything close, or could blow a screen to suit.  A ancient text was consulted and a mould and screen was retrieved from a dusty shelf.  Screen fitted perfect, but i wanted a tinted version. 1 week later I had a perfect screen in hand. (y)

New fairing meant new mounts, this took some head scratcihing as to where to fit the head cooler now I'm running twin 5" headlights.

16.thumb.jpg.b3c94faa163a892c3fe68c833f083bda.jpg6.thumb.jpg.1fc6fcc912ca69b7da4e032650cb3cac.jpg4.thumb.jpg.09ef47ed20ea3b56455d608852af02d1.jpg

It's all very, very tight, but it'll work fine.

Other changes of note, are the rear shock, originally a very nice ex M Dunlop  Maxton GP10 has gone, it wasn't going to work with my linkage, unless a huge amount of work was done to it, so I've sold it to another Harris F1 owner with the XR69 swingarm set-up. In it's place is a bargain barely used Nitron intended for a Ducati 851, which is what the Harris set-up used

next jobs are to get the modded swing arm back from RCD and fitted on the bike, then I can show you the rear brake set-up in all it's glory, and make a decision on which seat unit i will use. that will also allow me to make a decision on battery position and finalize the wiring.

Fairing mounts need finishing, then we can look at paint, still undecided on that, and then there is the other 30,000 spacers to make...
