clivegto Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 (edited) So are Spondon/GIA Edited January 13, 2022 by clivegto 3
Gixer1460 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Ooooh - this may cause a bit of a stink as I know who got the rights to the 'Martek' name / brand when it folded 1st time around ! ! ! 1

Even if anyone wanted to ressurrect Spondon, all their machines were auctioned off and their frame jigs were scrapped, even though GIA Gavin wanted to buy them. (Anyone who has visited GIA will have heard this as any vague mention of the word 'Spondon' induces a rather negative reaction in Gavin, who isn't exactly going to volunteer to become president of the Stuart Garner fan club.) 2
Dezza Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 So GIA have recently changed their name to SpondonGIA? 1

Dezza Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Shit, I did not know that Gav had died. That is very sad
Simbec1863 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 I only found out as my sister in law lives across the road from GIA and always chatted with him
370steve Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 I found out a while ago that he had a terminal illness and was trying to sell the business, but was asked not to say!

jimbob43 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Gavs last ever build, finished off by spondon/gia, Stuart tiller is now involved, still has spondon monster tube frame jig, I wouldn't touch Walker as far as I could throw him, he,s a dodgy man, them tube frames are a kit, frame tank yokes subframe and rearsets for 7.5k, he has ten kits for sale apparently, he did state to me it costs him 12k to make them but selling for 7.5 4
Gixer1460 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Did it cost 12k per kit or 12k total for 10? If the latter, 7.5k is a bloody nice mark-up! But if the former, he shouldn't be in business as if he paid 12k they should be retailing at 17-18k so he's effectively losing 10+k LOL!
Blue Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Jimbob43 that makes me think about using my ducati subframe etc

spondonturbo Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 Spondon GIA is the way forward on aluminium frame kits and swingarms now. They are currently catching up on the backlog of work that Gav had taken deposits on. I have seen their work and spent some time with them and they have some skills and a there is also a lot of spondon knowledge and connections so it is a good combination of the two brands coming together. There will be some articles soon with more details 6
baldrick Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 i wouldnt be buying anything from martek/ MK engineering etc after reading some of the horror stories on the net about them. 3
