Bobby Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 So I've got a 5.5 width 17 inch wheel in my slabbie, currently I'm running a 170 rear tyre but looking to put a 190 on the wheel, looking at the bike its looking like with the 190 on it I might have an issue with the chain rubbing\touching the edge of the tyre! so has anyone done this or a solution should this be the case? thank you Quote
Bobby Posted September 12, 2019 Author Posted September 12, 2019 forgot to mention I'm putting a metmachex swinger in it also Quote
clivegto Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I run a 180 in my one & the chain does touch depending on what make the tyre is as they do vary a bit. Quote
Dezza Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 The widest tyre that should be put onto a 5.5 rim is a 180; a 190 needs a 6 inch rim minimum. I have always wondered how many times well-known bike tyre suppliers each day receive phone enquiries starting with: "What's the widest........" Quote
Bobby Posted September 12, 2019 Author Posted September 12, 2019 cool thanks, for my build I need a fairly beefed up rear end so a 6 inch wheel it will have to be, next question, what suzuki has a 6 inch rear which will be suitable to go in do you know? Quote
Blubber Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Hayabusa, b-king, gsx1400 some tl, some 1000. Think most suzuki liter bikes from 2002 up will have a 6" rear. 1 Quote
Bobby Posted September 12, 2019 Author Posted September 12, 2019 Yes some srad"s have a 6 I see, that's what ill go for, I will have to assemble it all and work out measurements etc, I will most likely have to have a offset front sprocket to keep the chain in alignment Quote
wraith Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 The 750 srad have the 6" most of the 600 where 5.5" also don't forget the srad have a bigger wheel spindle, so you may need to sleeve down. Quote
SiBag Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Kwak ZX750R is 6" and looks very much like the old slingshot curved spoke wheels. Quote
Bobby Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 Ok cool I will work out what's best and go from there Quote

Bobby Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 ive just brought a rear dymag wheel to go in, once it arrives I will suss out how to make it work Quote
dupersunc Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Srad wheel needs 6mm machining off the sprocket carrier to get the chain alignment. 2 Quote
Bobby Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 Ive now got a magnesium dymag to go in now, and I have decided i am gonna put a 200 tyre in the bike. I need to start a project topic and post photos of my build 2 Quote

Please refrain from using twin dominater headlights, purple anodized bolts and everything else out of the MustPee catalogue.... That WOULD really suck. Thank you for being considered. Dezza Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 (edited) There may be insufficient clearance between the chain and the frame spar using a 6" wheel in such a frame without major sprocket carrier surgery. If the wheel takes Dymag's current sprocket carrier design, then this prevents machining to move the chain nearer the tyre so a bespoke carrier will likely be needed I had similar problems fitting a 6 inch race wheel to a frame built when such wide wheels did not exist. A 180 tyre just about gives enough clearance (the narrowest tyre that fits on a 6 inch rim....) but that's fine as it won't fuck up the steering. Edited September 14, 2019 by Dezza Quote
vizman Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 The dudette’s slabby is running a 6inch ozracing wheel in the back of her slabby 11 mated to a metmachex swingarm. i had to cut off the original adjusters, make the left hand side adjuster stepped out, shave about 8mm off the wheel hub and offset the front sprocket.....‘‘twas a right ball ache to work out. Oilyspanner Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Aye, easy to make things fit, but harder to do the job properly ! - Can't you get a 300 motorcycle tyre now, just saying...... 1 Quote
