thanks to Covid the engine parts company has taken months to get around to my cams but rumour has it they are done and en route so hopefully have a motor again soon!

in the meantime...I sent the frame and wheels off for powdercoating to freshen them up with something a bit more 80s...

latent scarlet...aka...candy red :) very happy with the result! the frame is the same colour and should go great with the blue bodywork once built up

Just realised since i got my frame back beginning of this year I haven't updated this thread! doh!

So the frame i had powdercoated had to get redone due to a liquid in the frame leaking out and stripping the powdercoating off (noone knows what liquid was)

so had it re-powdercoated and then blasted out the thread holes to get rid of liquid with an air line.

then once i had cleaned up the threads from the powdercoating and sanded it down so all the mounting bolts slide through etc it was time to assemble...

arm in first along with new headstock bearings

get the big ol' motor centre of workspace first then lift frame on

wasnt happy with the original chrome on the Harris Performance exhaust starting to rust after years, so had it sandblasted

exhaust half bolted on and new cooler mounted. old cooling system is hideous and outdated so converting it to front lines from crankcase in AN8 so was checking to see what angle fittings I needed.

Fittings are on the way currently along with a beefy clutch to take the extra oomph of the motor. then can add oil and bolt exhaust up properly (cant get drain bolt out with exhaust on)

Also on way is some new dyna coils as old ones were putting out 5.5ohms!

cheers guys :)

got a bit more progress done on this

put a new clutch in it (standard steels, SPS frictions, HD springs)

also fitted a stock katana oil temp and pressure sensor cover on back of motor since that was previous location of the oil cooler lines.

built new HT leads and just waiting on some SS tube to mount the new coils

couldnt resist throwing the carbs back on in the meantime though

removed the stock tacho pickup and put in the suzuki blank

now that my new oil cooler setup is bottom feed, Ive got much more steering lock. so built a thicker metal setup (5mm plate instead of 2.5) and trimmed the lockstops down to give me more turn

old

new

with the new gearing and drop from a 630 chain to a 530, i needed to make a frame slider for the chain to stop it chewing through bottom frame crosspiece

278850566_3987025124856215_5082075287579684325_n.thumb.jpg.729a6f3ba13ffa2969c4c949519a98ee.jpg

then fitted up the billet sprocket cover and put the gear selector on

poured 5 litres of acetone into the tank to remove as much of the old por15 as possible as it shouldnt need any in and it had gone all brittle and caused blocking on the old nackered taps

278992127_496910678742857_3831060376412185012_n.thumb.jpg.d77a40a294446a3d5e186412521ea19c.jpg

then installed new taps after flushing tank out

just waiting on a shorter 90 for one of the taps now and a response from ignitech and in theory i can test ride it!
