  2. you can change the airbox with the engine in the frame. Just remove the generator and intake rubbers and oil lines, gives just enough space.
  3. and if the tube has been filed there's a big chance that it's not perfectly flat on one end, this has probably caused your bearing failure.
  4. a little longer. You install one bearing (right one if I'm not mistaken) until it seats, then put the tube in and install the other bearing till the inner race seats against the tube. Both bearings should turn together if you compress them (like tightening the axle nut) but still be able to turn individually when not compressed.
  5. yes. Pics of the bike. Welcome by the way
  6. the clutch cable on my mate's EFE was not new anymore which caused heavy clutch operation. I lubed the cable, it improved a bit. Then later I installed a new cable and that made a massive difference. First thing I recommend if the clutch is too heavy, is a new clutch cable.
  7. if it's the standard tube it should be ok. Maybe one bearing was pressed in not far enough / a bit too far in the wheel which puts a side load on them. The tightening torque of the wheel nut has no influence on bearing life if the whole stuff is installed correctly.
  8. are you sure the tube between the bearings in the wheel is the correct length?
  9. no, the EFE mounts were wrong. And possibly still are.
  10. depending on where you get the drawings from, carefully check the dimensions. I remember the bottom rear mounts are 10mm too short on the drawings I got from the old site some 10 years ago.
  11. disconnect the throttle cable at the handlebars and remove the carbs complete with the cable. For putting the carbs back in, remove the battery and batterybox and air filter so you can push the airbox-carb rubbers on from the inside. A bit more work but much easier.
  12. even if I say so myself, not bad for a 41 year-old after 3 beers
  13. Hi and welcome. That exhaust looks a lot like the Yoshi I had on my '88 750. But mine had the duplex system.
  14. some woman broke it Saulius is ok thank God
  15. yes it's strong enough, don't worry. What I would worry about though is a first post without pics of said GS1000S
  16. I had a tank from a bike which had been standing for a while with some water in the fuel. Emptied it, filled it with vinegar, after a few days I drained it and all the rust came out. Tank is as good as new now.
  17. ride out earlier today. With my 7/11.
  18. just remove all the broken bits (including the connecting rod) and it will run on 3. #firstworldproblems
