b12 only firing on 3

A fellow bandit owner bought another B12  non runner complete for a very cheap price, the previous owner said it only runs on 3 and iv e dropped something down the hole so it dont turn over!!!!

 

on first inspection it seemed that the tappet adjuster from the duff cylinder was missing and the bugger was solid, probable fell into the cam sprocket and jammed it, says I.

 

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that head and piston is,what is know as, "Fooooooked".

just remove all the broken bits (including the connecting rod) and it will run on 3.

So would that be a B9 

Well if your going to blow a motor you may as well do it well and good

also block the jets on #2 so you dont just have fuel running into your oil. And you're all set.

Found the missing bits..

 

one liner is scored to buggery, but i have some spare from another engine, and as the wifes in I cant use the new over to heat them and remove them so had to use the press,

That's one box ticked FBOB !

I love the photo of the sump - tappet adjuster found and you can see the pattern from the underside of the piston !! 

What's the plan  ? - check trueness of crank, replace conrod ,piston and fit dot head ?  and FBOB's your Uncle !

 As this is a no budget rebuildThe plan is flush the cases for several hours with parts washer, see if it all spins OK, slap another piston in and cobble it back together with another head from the shed and fire it up..

At least you found the tappet adjuster, that'll save a couple of quid...

Oh yes i found the missing collet as well!!!!  classic example of why not to use instant gasket!!

Some monkeys shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a spanner!!!
