Dezza Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 If you phoned Harris and asked, they used to send you a load of those frame stickers for zilch. Now Harris don't even make their own alloy tanks. How times change. Quote

FJD Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Never understood why people BUY stickers (or even paint a bike with commercial advertising) and put them on their own stuff, to advertise for someone elses business. Maybe to inform the unknown onlooker what he is looking at ? Quote

Sometimes the commercial ads paint job is good looking, especially if they have the resources to spend megabucks on advertising, us ordinary Joe soaps ain't always good at designing fancy stuff. Dezza Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Sometimes they help with period detail, e.g. Harris and Spondon frame stickers, unobtainable wheel decals e.g. Campagnolo, Tecnomagnesio. If you can get a good picture and the dimensions from an old one, having really good quality replica period stickers made is not expensive. There is no need to buy two for 25 quid off some spiv on eb@y. Quote

clivegto Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Went to local car shop to get a number plate for the Harris. Had to show them the logbook and my driving licence before they would make me one which cost £7.80. I then promptly took it home and cut it up with the grinder. 4 Quote

clivegto Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 Paintwork started to bubble up all the way round the filler cap on the petrol tank. I used a Cork gasket and blue hylormar to seal it. At first I thought petrol had got under the paint but on further investigation it hadn't. Perhaps it was the solvent in the hylormar but I don't think so. Was a bit gutted at the time. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 (edited) After a bit of thought I got some 1.2mm brass sheet and whitteld it into a big washer shap to fit over the filler cap. I cut the bubbled up paint of from around the filler cap. Refitted the cap masked it of round the cap then stuck the brass washer to the tank with part sealant adhesive. Am quite pleased with the end result. Edited September 26, 2021 by clivegto 3 Quote
370steve Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 Remove any paint/primer from around the tank edge under the filler, for around 10mm, leave it bare metal, the problem with paint between the two surfaces is that it "wickes" the fuel. i use a Viton rubber gasket to seal it. 2 Quote
