TraxX Posted Wednesday at 09:19 AM Posted Wednesday at 09:19 AM (edited) Had a look in my old Fastbike Magazines (German Magazine ... not the uk Fastbikes) and found an article about the carbomoto bandit quite impressive build with some interesting things ... complete carbon fibre frame with cnc machined alloy inserts, 1276 engine with carbon airbox etc 140kg fully race ready thought it would be interesting for you so made a scan of it https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:EU:a36b5699-978f-4d54-94e1-693de59474c1 Also some information on an old carbomoto website http://www.carbomoto.com/carbonbanditprojekt-4.htm Edited Wednesday at 11:57 AM by TraxX 1 Quote

Joseph Posted Wednesday at 11:28 AM Posted Wednesday at 11:28 AM That looks more like a standard frame covered in carbon fiber ? 1 Quote
TraxX Posted Wednesday at 11:31 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 11:31 AM (edited) 8 minutes ago, Joseph said: That looks more like a standard frame covered in carbon fiber ? nope carbon frame with cnc machined alloy inserts it’s all written in the article. Even the forks are with an air spring conversion. Edited Wednesday at 11:38 AM by TraxX 1 Quote
TraxX Posted Wednesday at 11:32 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 11:32 AM even the „tank“ is just a carbon cover Quote
TLRS Posted Wednesday at 12:53 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:53 PM 53 minutes ago, Joseph said: That looks more like a standard frame covered in carbon fiber ? It does.. maybe they used to original frame to make a plug from and make a carbon frame out of that? Quote

Yep some parts of the frame mold were based on the on the original frame. This carbon Frame is 9kg according to the article compared to 19kg for an original bandit 1200 frame. If someone is interested I may translate the article. 1 Quote
Dezza Posted Wednesday at 05:03 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:03 PM Did they change the geometry of the carbon frame to make it handle better than an oem blandit with upgraded suspension? if not that's a whole lot of effort and cost for a cosmetic gain. I agree that 140 kg is likely to be stretching the truth a bit. Quote
Upshotknothole Posted Wednesday at 06:04 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:04 PM (edited) Nice work, but damn that's a lot of work that at the end of the day is still a track only Bandit. Edited Wednesday at 08:33 PM by Upshotknothole typo Quote
george 1100 Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM My slabby track bike weighs 165kg. Magtan magnesium wheels and titanium exhaust that weigh less than a pack of Sao biscuits. Alloy tank and every bolt is titanium. Impossible to lose another 25kg 2 Quote

Lots of cost down features kn the bandit motors starter spragbis an obvious example. Loads of little details where machining operations have beeen reduced on the Bandit and extra material left on components. Quote

coombehouse Posted Wednesday at 08:01 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:01 PM That frame looks very suspect. Why would you leave the indents pressed into the frame around the swingarm pivot & the lower suspension mounts wouldn't be strong or stiff enough if they were just carbon. The surface finish of the carbon also suggests it hasn't been laid up in a mould tool either. 1 Quote

As it can be seen in the pictures, the suspension crossmembers are indeed metal parts bolted through the carbon section. 2 Quote
george 1100 Posted Wednesday at 10:25 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:25 PM The wheels look like forged alloy and the exhaust looks stainless. Has 2 oil coolers also. Not sure if it's running a starter and alternator Quote

TraxX Posted Thursday at 07:58 AM Author Posted Thursday at 07:58 AM Ohh that escalated quickly ... just wanted to share an article about a bike that i think is quite interesting and about which you can't find much information on the internet. It's not my bike, nor am I friends with the builder, etc. Perhaps instead of doubting it, you should maybe think about what you would have had to do to achieve this weight. Dont think that all modifications were mentioned in the article. On an oil-cooled engine, a lot of weight can certainly be gained through things like hollow camshafts and a lightened crankshaft, etc. Maybe i should just delete this Topic and not publish any possibly interesting information here, since there is obviously more hate than knowledge horizont expansion. 8 hours ago, george 1100 said: The wheels look like forged alloy and the exhaust looks stainless. Not sure if it's running a starter and alternator The wheels are forged Magnesium PVMs, back than in the 2010s they were the lightest wheels you could buy (lighter than dymag or BST carbon wheels). Yes has two oil coolers. No its not running an starter or alternator. 11 hours ago, george 1100 said: My slabby track bike weighs 165kg. Impossible to lose another 25kg Your Track bike is quite an impressive build and something where I would aim for If I were to build an oil cooled Track bike as it for shure has good useabilty. This one is more of rideable show what is possible bike. In comparison your frame, fairing, tank, engine, suspension, brakes are light but for shure still weight a bit more. You also carry more fuel in the alloy tank than the 6 liter mini Tank in the self supporting Carbon Seat unit of the bandit. 11 hours ago, coombehouse said: That frame looks very suspect. Carbomoto is well know (at least in germany) for their self supporting carbon seat units for some decades. So why wouldnt a company that makes things like this https://carbomotocom.com/shop/carbonteile/fullsix-carbon/ducati-fullsix/panigale-v4-v4s-v4-speciale/selbsttragendes-heck/ be able to produce a ugly but working bandit carbon frame? 2 Quote
