  1. Love that thing. Have always wondered - the arched tubes on the swingarm - are they tapered? or is it an optical illusion?
  2. Cool. Had a half formed memory that was the case - I try to stay well clear of CV carbs, but do have a set of WN/P 38s under a bench...
  3. Completely understand - I want to head that way on my Kat at some point too. I'd been thinking Ducati 916-ish kill switch, didn't know the R1 was done that way, so might look into that!
  4. What is it that the stepped spacer actually does?
  5. R1 and R6 are commonly swapped in to shorten throttle action - R6 makes for something like 1/5th of a turn.
  6. The Japs are just as bad at using M7s and shit.
  7. So, forgot to mention I got this together and sorted. I didn't make up a thicker washer to control end float of the starter gear - I figured the extra mm of movement shouldn't be an issue. I did have to machine up and flame harden a spacer to go between the nut and the rotor. All buttoned up and it's making good voltage, is revvy and feels faster everywhere without being hard to get off the line. I did have to extend the wiring a fair bit on the GSXR stator, but it's not rocket science. I did have a wierd issue where the inner diameter of the starter gear shrank ~0.1mm when it was heat treated - had to "hone" it with the lathe and some emery to get it back out to a diameter that actually allowed me to slide it onto the needle bearings.
  8. GS/GSX is ~2" longer than the GSXR motors - just look at how much extra space you wind up with when a GSXR motor goes into a Kat/GS/EFE. The head looks like it's hard up against the downtubes - fucking good luck getting anything aircooled (except the 750ES/Popup motor maybe) into it.
  9. Wonder if a TL motor could be persuaded to fit? GS twin?TRX850/New Super Tenere motor? GS 500 is probably a better motor than the Laverda unit... I remember seeing one converted to a BMW F650 single - was lighter and made more power than the Lav unit.
  10. Love this thing - gives me thoughts of digging up a Laverda 650/668 Bakker frame and seeing what I can stuff in it.

    Dry Clutch

1100 might kill the 750 gear cluster, dry clutch i think has a longer shaft compared to wet. Doubt the 1100 would kill the clutch itself. Having said that, i recall a particularly heavily modified 750 slingshot in a mag down here years back, had a big bore 1100 with big flatties and alot of work done, 750 gearset and the LTD dry clutch setup, RGV fairings on it just to fuck with people. Don't recall them being too worried about the clutch.
  12. Looks to me like an RC30 race seat? Fairing almost looks like XR51, but it's not - bellypan is all wrong.
  13. I think I like the 88 look better!
  14. You'd be surprised - they're dirt cheap on evilbay because no-one wants them. They've got high and low speed adjustment too.

    Harris

    So what's it weigh?
  16. Hint for the future - you can install rivnuts with a bolt, a nut and a washer if you're shafted on access. Wind nut onto bolt, followed by washer. thread into rivnut, hold bolt against spinning, wind nut towards rivnut - will pull the rivnut up nice and tight.
  17. From memory Jap and Canadian market pop up Kats were neutered to ~85 hp or something, UK and Australian bikes got another 10hp, was all done with cams and jetting to suit. Can and jetting differences were covered in the workshop manual.
  18. Probably cams. It's how they neutered the pop up Kat for some markets.
  19. solution to the rebound issue... http://sportsvalve.com/sports-valve/
  20. I used a set of emulators from XS Mike - they're intended for 35mm forks so I had to machine up a stepped adaptor to go from the top of the damper rod to the bottom of the emulator, and one from emulator to the spring. Interesting set of mods to the fork top - the schrader reminds me of the ones on my old RG500. Had contemplated machining off the wiggle and fitting screw adjusters, or just buying the ohno speed ones from webike. Actually contemplating binning the Kat frontend now - been struggling with a lack of front end feel even though the wear patterns suggest the damping setup is working well.
  21. Well, looks like you're all over it I'm a bit heavier - so i'm running .95 springs and a similar cartridge emulator setup, my antidives are still fitted, but completely bypassed - only running 10w oil which seems to work for me - what fork tops are they?
