Wee Man Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Trying to get my head round selecting the best gearing for my 11 turbo, probably not good idea after busy night shift . It's currently on standard 15/48. I was thinking 16/44.....but WTF do I know? Bike is just for fun in the road, occasional run up the 1/4. Quote
MeanBean49 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 I run 17/40 i think (could be 16) Mine makes loads of mid range torque and pulls really well from low revs, i find having tall gearing lets you use the power without it being a complete pogo stick and helps keep turbo loaded up 3rd is good for 30mph up to 175mph so not much gear changing needed. 1st and second are entirely pointless gears really. 1 Quote
Allspeeds Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 I can vouch for meanbeans 1st and 2 nd being pointless I’ve rode it ! crazy machine 1 Quote
Duckndive Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 On the draw thru oil boiler I run 17-48....only get to 4th on a 9.5 1/4 The draw thru EFE I sold ran 17-45... and that ran 9.8 sec 1/4 1 Quote
Blower1 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 I have supercharged EFE with 17/40 gearing. 1 Quote
Wee Man Posted November 6, 2018 Author Posted November 6, 2018 Thanks for replies. @MeanBean49 sounds fun, that's what I'm after. I want to keep the turbo loaded up. Quote

Its nice to be able to acelerate really fast and feel what a turbo is about instead of bouncing up and down and not really getting anywhere. 1 Quote
Wee Man Posted November 6, 2018 Author Posted November 6, 2018 Perfect! Right off to order chain and sprockets. Quote

clivegto Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 17 won't fit. Am running 16/43 on the road still loads the Turbo & fast. 1 Quote

Someone better tell the two turbo GSXR's that I've built, both with 17's - the Kawazuki was 17/45 @ 210hp and the 1460 has 17/42 @ a lot more! Tried an 18 from a Busa - no way, all with 530 / 532 chain 1 Quote
no class Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 (edited) ran 17/45 on my old turbo slingy ……. Edited November 6, 2018 by no class 2 Quote
Reinhoud Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 I've been experimenting with gear ratio's on non turbo bikes, but with power gains up to about 60%, I prefered the stock ratio every time. With my GS1000 Turbo I did not feel te need to change the ratio. 1 Quote

For what I do all gears apart from 5th are useless so ive geared it so 3rd is virtually the same as stock 5th which gives me 3 useful gears instead of 1. Quote

Kid Kearsley Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 I run a 17th for land speed stuff and just removing the offending post on the sprocket cover. 2 Quote
