vitesse Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Are the 38mm carbs any good on 1100 slabby and 1100m motors? Quote

Fazz711 Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Hi bud. Welcome to OSS. Well set up 38s are a good choice Quote
Swirl Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I will have a set of 38's for sale when I get back from my caravan next week Quote

bandit750 Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Your caravan is running 38s' Impressive spec. Quote
Fula28 Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Ive got factory pro kit for 38,s never used the needles just mains, Emulsions get mullerd on 38,s so easy. Be wary of that make good torque and power those with 40mm headers. Quote

boilerdude Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 (edited) That thing makes it so the emulsion tubes dont wear so badly. It replaces the plastic donut part on the needles which basically fits down into the slide incorrectly as stock an causes havoc on the emulsion tubes. This part made ^^^ (4 of them, 1 for each needle) will remedy that problem so the needles sit like they really should in the slides. Just looking at them I'm sure they help immensely. Many more worry free miles out of your emulsion tubes. awesome share btw blue. Edited August 18, 2017 by boilerdude 1 Quote
Beevis Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 What material is the needle spacer made from? Quote
Antman Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Would those spacers work in 36mm CV's. If so who sells them. cheers Ant Quote
boilerdude Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 not sure if the ridge is the same. and nobody sells them. anybody who wants those has to take those measurements to a place that makes stuff out of stuff, and have them made. Quote
Oilyspanner Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Jonny1bump's design - works a treat - anyone who has BST36/38/40ss carbs needs these spacers, if there's someone out there who could make them (easy enough with the right equipment), I reckon many owners would want them. They're fiddly to make yourself. Quote
Blue Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 I asked the guy who made mine if he'd make more to sell, he said if he gets time, possibly over winter when things are a little quieter Quote
boilerdude Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 (edited) I showed these to marc at factorypro. Here is his reply... "that lowers the needle 2 notches. The step is supposed to be there. It's a design feature to keep the needle from wearing on both sides.". Ok I dont know why this is white all of a sudden... but anyway Point#1. ok so the thing really should be thicker on top. (should be the thickness of the original donut PLUS the step down.)Or you can just add a couple extra shims I suppose Point#2. Open for debate. Edited September 8, 2017 by boilerdude Quote
boilerdude Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 dindu nuffin <dindunuf@gmail.com> 9:16 AM (3 hours ago) to marc I see what you mean. the design should be a little thicker on top. But I still fail to see how holding the needle straight rather than leaning one way is bad. marc@factorypro.com 12:10 PM (37 minutes ago) to me Intake pressure fluctuations pulse in and out at low rpm - banging the slide and needle fore and aft - wearing the needle jet on 2 sides. With the needle cocked, it only wears on 1 side. They didn't realize that the spacer lowered the needle 2 notches. dindu nuffin <dindunuf@gmail.com> 12:44 PM (3 minutes ago) to marc yea but it seems the way that design fits "just so" into the step ought to hold the needle not only more straight but also more firmly so. Excusing the error in overall thickness. A hoop leaning against a step is less stable and more flimsy than a hoop simply resting flush to the ground. Holding tight to the needle. Quote
boilerdude Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 the needle held solidly in a slide that rattles fore and aft isn't the magic solution to wear.notching the spacer helps excess low rpm richness by lowering the needle 2 extra positions. Quote
boilerdude Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I suppose my next question would be "does the slide itself really rattle that much to cause contact?". And also. can anybody confirm that these work with evidence of high mileage emulsion tubes that are still in decent shape? Quote
boilerdude Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 nobody wanna argue? I'm not so sure those thingys are good now. I wanna hear what another smart person has to say back to that. Quote
