Gsxr1000 or Hayabusa engine

Recommended Posts

Ok all,

A man down the road from me, has a gsxr600 srad ex race bike with a blown up engine. Got chatting and he wants to put on the road but with a bigger engine.

So question that came up was, he was thinking of the 750 srad but we then got on to think if a gsxr 1000 or even Hayabusa engine?

Now I don't know anything about theses water cooled engines.

So what would you lot be looking at putting in ?

The easy way is just to put a 600 engine in it, but where's the fun in that xD

Going to see if he will join OSS and do a project piece on it if he goes for a bigger engine ;)

Looking at the specs, the gsxr1000 has 4bhp more but 35ft pound of torque less than the Hayabusa. So for road use (if it was me and it would fit) the Hayabusa would be more fun with the extra torque

Early 1000 motors are cheap compared with 1300 one's. I belive the 1300 will fit but the top inside frame needs notching. Not done it myself but read it somewhere. I can measure some of the stuff if required as I have 750 srad, 1000k1 and a busa.

A nice sleeper (y)

Don't know what he's doing with bodywork as it's got track bodywork on at the moment

Not much SRAD left tbh but it's a wild effort to complete such a build.

Anyways, enough thread hi jacking, i hope you mate finds a way to shoehorn something cool in his, sound doable with a water engine

Not as much as a mate just someone who lives down the road, but as these things go, got a feeling going to see him more xD

Personally as it's a much lighter bike than the Hayabusa and he's aiming for a sleeper I'd be using the GSXR 1000 engine as there's plenty of torque available with that for the weight of an SRAD when compared to a barge like a 'busa.

Worth noting that a K5 on 1000 will give you 180hp out of the box, and a re-map will take you to 200hp in a safe and reliable package.

Id go for the 1000 lump, they are so light it'll suit the srad chassis perfectly. Extra points that they are fairly cheap and plentiful.

I know where there’s a 600/750 with an intercooled turbo Hayabusa engine. I’ve been out on a trip down South with him.

It was a lot of work and some serious surgery.

Busa motors are always in demand and never cheap, I much prefer the later 1340’s  to the earlier 1299’s, not just the size, but newer, no weak 2nd gear, smarter ECU and other upgrades.

As @Captain Chaossaid i have done a k4 thou in an srad750.

Later added a slipperclutch from a k6 or 7 wich was an easy fit too.

It was quite simple i must say, it took me 1 day to get it in and make engine mounts.

Maybe a day or two for the rest.

My answer to most questions in life is normally “Hayabusa”.  I’m a self confessed fan-boi, had several, currently using 4 and I love ‘em!  Tough motors, noticeably more torque than a 1000, unmatched potential, ridiculous amount of mods and go faster kit.

….. but….. if I had a 600 srad roller roller I think I’d be looking at a 750 motor for a quick fix or a 1000 for hyper build personaly.

To me Busa lumps are like GSX1400 ones, much as I really like them they are big, both in weight and dimensions, which means the benefits come at a price.

Not that Busa motors won’t fit anything if you’re keen though….

Every now and then I look at the Mk 1 Bandit in the back of the shed gathering dust and get these stupid visions of a yellow DR1200.

Where I live there are endless mile after mile of fire trails and forestry roads.

Same here, that's why I bought a Cagiva Elefant a few years ago, hoping the Ducrapi engine would go bang and replace it with a GSX-R 750 lump.

Bit of a update.

Seen him last night and he has a plan, he's going to look out for ever a gsxr750 or gsxr1000 engine and see what turns up at a price he can afford first.

He is also going down the Streetfighter root, no fairing and single seat etc. he was having a good look at the Gsx1100f HellCat I'm doing and I think that made his mind up on a Streetfighter look ;)

He was very interested in the busa root but there out of his price range.

Told him to join here as there will be more info and know how on wc stuff than I can give him, as wc is still new modern stuff to me xD
