  1. Stiff airbox rubbers? Give soaking them in Boiled Linseed oil a try, might take a couple of days of soaking but its always worked for me on some absolute nightmare rubbers that are as stiff as plastic.

    What frame

Not homemade at all! That was built by Paul ( i think his name is) at Diverse. Was built with a turbo'd 750 motor in.
  3. JE used to do pistons for the 750 to take it out to 884, dont know if they still do.
  4. Sounds like the perfect streetbike! My air cooled bikes have always been modified in much the same way, they are tough as old boots, this one sounds like it has all the right bits to make sure it stays in one piece and puts a smile on your face.
  5. I would of thought the weight difference will be a issue?
  6. Indeed! I also grew up on late 70's early 80's superbikes, some complete with big bores, nitrous or turbo's and of course with bog standard suspension, brakes and frames. Makes the issues with some modern bikes seem easy enough to deal with.
  7. Very nice! I had one of these a few years back, great fun! never understood the 'widowmaker' tag though, to me they handle just fine.
  8. I rode one in my journo days, might of been a gsx11. Being some time in the 80's i cant remember too much about it other than id handled as good as any Harris/spondon/martin etc.. id ridden.
  9. Do the 750's respond well to a decent porting job?

    Fast

Bloody love that bike! Its one of the reasons im going to pick up one of Trev's kits for my ET when i get to that point.
  11. id be tempted to use some R6 wheels, so light theres a noticeable improvement in chuck-a-bility.
  12. Rebuild the engine, much more rewarding as you will learn so much doing it.
  13. Have you got a picture of the wheels?
  14. The martini porsche had some nice swoopy graphics going accentuating its curves..
  15. I had a gsx softail with the shocks mounted similar, took me and the mrs to the south of france and back with no issues. I think people overthink and worry too much. The first streetbike in this country to crack 200mph had the headstock cut, pulled out, and welded back up without the aid of a jig. No problems there either.
  16. Any use? https://www.suzukiperformancespares.co.uk/product/suzuki-gsxr1100-80mm-big-bore-pistons/3578/ Ive used those pistons before in rebuilding a mates gsxr, never had any problems, still going strong.
  17. Thats not true. Was up for 12k, which is pretty reasonable for a absolute beast of a bike. It had been well looked after and completely refreshed, it was just wheeled into a barn for the photos.
  18. A friend of mine had a Polygon frame a few years back. Think he used a Blade base and grafted the top of a zxr or zx9 tank to it.
  19. I feel your pain! Currently shopping for bits for my big bore ET build, could use a oilbolier or a even better a gsxr1000 lump and have different results.. But.. Its not what does it for me, i just love the sound and presence of a big air cooled motor too much ,so ill just try not to look at the receipts. Bit like im also doing ANOTHER full engine rebuild on my V8 Moggie, i could stick in something more modern but that old Rover V8 just makes me smile.

    Supercharger

Lovely bit of kit that trike, Dave knows his stuff so im sure he'll iron out any issues.
  21. Pretty sure a z1000 head fits, and ive seen one at a strip in the states years ago with a gsxr1100 head, though i presume theres a fair bit of work involved there.

    Learning

To be fair, i wouldnt take advice from anyone on Youtube. Just because they have a Youtube channel doesnt mean they know what fuck they are doing. Id buy a decent manual as a good base and start with something very easy, like taking something off and putting it back on, getting a feel for it and building your confidence. Go slowly, dont overload yourself with information and more importantly enjoy it.
  23. It certainly pays to pay the best if you cant do it yourself. I had a busa that had been turbo'd by Holeshot (before i owned it), only a basic kit but couldnt fault it. Ultra reliable, easy to live with. Think i had it 8 years and it never let me down once. I am torn between having my spare ET motor turbo'd (probably by FBM as his and BigCC's work is about the best ive seen) or converting it to EFI and getting one of Trev's Nitrous kits, just because its fallen out of favour a bit this side of the pond.
