Stiff airbox rubbers? Give soaking them in Boiled Linseed oil a try, might take a couple of days of soaking but its always worked for me on some absolute nightmare rubbers that are as stiff as plastic.
-
Not homemade at all! That was built by Paul ( i think his name is) at Diverse. Was built with a turbo'd 750 motor in.
-
JE used to do pistons for the 750 to take it out to 884, dont know if they still do.

Sounds like the perfect streetbike! My air cooled bikes have always been modified in much the same way, they are tough as old boots, this one sounds like it has all the right bits to make sure it stays in one piece and puts a smile on your face.

I would of thought the weight difference will be a issue?
-
Indeed! I also grew up on late 70's early 80's superbikes, some complete with big bores, nitrous or turbo's and of course with bog standard suspension, brakes and frames. Makes the issues with some modern bikes seem easy enough to deal with.

Very nice! I had one of these a few years back, great fun! never understood the 'widowmaker' tag though, to me they handle just fine.
-
I rode one in my journo days, might of been a gsx11. Being some time in the 80's i cant remember too much about it other than id handled as good as any Harris/spondon/martin etc.. id ridden.

Engine mods and other upgrades for a 92 GSXR 750?

Do the 750's respond well to a decent porting job? -
Bloody love that bike! Its one of the reasons im going to pick up one of Trev's kits for my ET when i get to that point.

id be tempted to use some R6 wheels, so light theres a noticeable improvement in chuck-a-bility. -
Rebuild the engine, much more rewarding as you will learn so much doing it.
-
Have you got a picture of the wheels?

I had a gsx softail with the shocks mounted similar, took me and the mrs to the south of france and back with no issues. I think people overthink and worry too much. The first streetbike in this country to crack 200mph had the headstock cut, pulled out, and welded back up without the aid of a jig. No problems there either.
