imago
What's a rough figure for an off the shelf turbo kit excluding labour and engine work for a Bandit 1200 or GSXR1100? New kit rather than used or finding/making the various bits. From a brief scout around it looks like somewhere around the £2k mark, is that about right? Quote Link to comment
Duckndive
I would say £2K as a basic start point ..... as there are so many different options as to component spec .. Boost is addictive you soon want more 1 Quote Link to comment
Gixer1460
I'd add a grand on to that figure . . . . https://www.proboost.fi/motorcycle-turbo-kits There are others of course - UK sourced . . . . . http://www.warpspeedracing.co.uk/?page_id=312 maybe a little cheaper but the end bill usually will start with a 3 LOL! Boost is like Crack or Smack - you soon want a bigger & better high! 1 Quote Link to comment
imago
I was just chatting with someone and it came up but I didn't really have a clue about cost as I've never done one. I wouldn't say never, but it's not really something I'd do/have as I don't like the look of bikes with turbos on, they mostly (not all obvs) look a bit too 'steam punk' for me. Great if you like or don't mind the look but it's one of those things I can't not see. Quote Link to comment
Gixer1460
Doesn't look 'steam punk' to me LOL! . . . . . . 11 Quote Link to comment
clivegto
Think Pete Field is charging about £1700 nowadays. I just got a second hand one for £800 + a cylinder head. 3 Quote Link to comment

It's just a personal taste thing, not a criticism of a bike or style and you can always appreciate the work and engineering which goes into a bike without liking the look of the finished article. Some people like one look, some like others and long may it continue. 4 Quote Link to comment

If you priced up a 1216 piston kit, bore and hone, gaskets and sundries, flowed head,Kent cams for a 150bhp ish build , a low boost 180bhp + more torque for similar money on a good stock motor sounds worthwhile especially as you could uprate it as finances allow, whereas with conventional tuning it is very much a diminishing return after a certain point but boost, once you've got the better pistons and maybe rods the power potential is quite staggering Edited July 6, 2023 by DAZ 3 Quote Link to comment
Arttu
I think the ProBoost kits (link above) are from lowest end of the price range. And provide good value for your money. Sure you can build a similar setup with less money, if you source the parts smartly, know what you are doing, can do everything by yourself AND don't count any value for your work. 1 Quote Link to comment

And continuing the off topic - Oh yeah, there isn't much inside those cases that is stock anymore! 4 Quote Link to comment

If you like stuff that doesn't fit!! Only having a conversation with someone today about one of those kits. 1 Quote Link to comment

That don't bother me as you know I just make it fit what I want but all the basics are there with most second hand kits it just saves lot of work. 1 Quote Link to comment
baldrick
ive done some research and theres lots of people selling turbo kits, but not lots who understand exactly what they are doing. and some kits are much better than others. Also might be fine and well sticking a turbo on, but if it was me, id want forged pistons, stronger rods and uprated clutch as a minimum. Also, id expect it to be nearer 3500 for gsxr kit or say 4500+ for busa or similar. cheap kits will just cause grief, ive seen a fair few that dont last long or cause loads of headaches. if you get it fitted by someone reputable, like FBM, or Big cc, id say your chances of having to sort issues will be dramatically lowered. i know a guy who had a kawa fitted with one from a "specialist", in northern ireland, and had to van it back twice within a year of having it fitted, from the NE of Scotland!!!...and pay, to get issues ironed out/ sorted......thats put me off tbh 4 Quote Link to comment
BillyR
It certainly pays to pay the best if you cant do it yourself. I had a busa that had been turbo'd by Holeshot (before i owned it), only a basic kit but couldnt fault it. Ultra reliable, easy to live with. Think i had it 8 years and it never let me down once. I am torn between having my spare ET motor turbo'd (probably by FBM as his and BigCC's work is about the best ive seen) or converting it to EFI and getting one of Trev's Nitrous kits, just because its fallen out of favour a bit this side of the pond. 2 Quote Link to comment
