Dixie Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Hi All, The GS is now fit for the road, I just have one nagging issue, do I completely restore it, just tidy it up or leave it well alone, its generally not too bad apart from some nasty dinks in the tank. Because it's so genuine I really want to keep it that way, just give it a good clean up and thats it, but the damage on the tank niggles me. If I got it painted, I'd stick to the original colour and I know you can get the decals. Obviously, I'm open to your suggestions. Quote
imago Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 When they're like that, I'd always go for restoration. There are plenty of rough ones, bare frames, boxes of bits bikes about to take your more radical modifying inclinations out on. Obviously that's just my opinion, and as this is the internet there will be plenty more to choose from shortly. Quote
Blubber Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I would sell it as a surviver bike and buy a box of bike parts. But then again... I like solving the big 3d suzuki puzzles 1 Quote
1100fred Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Keeps as is and enjoy riding it you can always buy a box of bits and build what you want but it’s getting harder to find bikes like that Quote
wraith Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Keep as is, or have the tank done. Apart from that just enjoy riding it If you're getting board with nothing to do, keep a eye open for one that needs work (you can still find them for not much money) put a gs1000 motor or oil cooled motor in it and more up to date running gear, then you have the best of both worlds 1 Quote
R1guy Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Street fighter it! Get one of those headlight masks that looks like some sort of demon, big bore carbon exhaust , jack the back up and a 300mm rear tire! Will handle like crap but who cares! Quote
ccroaker Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 if it was mine just tidy it up.... use it and have fun.... you can always restore it at a later date....a great looking survivor bike... enjoy Quote
Fazz711 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Conserve not restore. It will look better that way with all its history on show. Just do what is needed to keep it going. Possibly do the paint if it bugs you. Quote
ibrakeformoose Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Get a spare bodykit and paint that.. leave yours alone (assuming it's original paint) Quote
gs7_11 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Keep riding it, that's what they're for. Keep doing improvements. Get something else to tinker with if you feel the need.....lots of projects about. Quote
Dixie Posted March 29, 2019 Author Posted March 29, 2019 Thanks All, I'm happy with the majority, leave it other than maybe paint the tank. That suits me just fine, in fact only this morning somebody asked me if I wanted to sell it as they he'd one years ago, it ain't going anywhere. 4 Quote

BigT Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Stock, but if you're riding it, upgrade suspension and brakes Quote
