  1. Lovely front end , I'm sure you'll find something to fettle wether it be for this or the draw through , are you keeping the clip ons and fairing ? Sort of 80's endurance racer style ? Don't see too many of those around now , probably 'cos we are all older and have bad backs .... Edit : added pic of p&m suzuki
  2. When I used to spectate at Harewood hill climb there was a class for 1950s 500cc single seat race cars , usually manx Norton powered coopers ,that sort of thing and invariably they used Castrol R , and yep they smelt delicious !
  3. Nice to see this, love a two stroke, the noise, the on/off powerband, the smell, if this went past me on the street my nose would be twitching like let's go Brandon in a girls school .....

Could be the coil for 2+3 as they share that one, check not just the coil but the wiring to it for a slight break,all connections clean and secure ,also the ht leads for any signs of breakdown, high resistance or arcing out. Try new plugs if the existing one are sooty they will like to misbehave ngk have developed a reputation for poor quality control, so try swapping known working plugs into cyl 2+3 Then I'd be back to the carbs you say the needles were worn and ridged did you replace the emulsion tubes too as they wear too ?
  5. My late Dad was a fan of outfits as a young guy he had a chassis combo to haul his bantam trials bike around, then later on converted a double adult to an estate car type rear door to haul his double bass to gigs ...... Still miss him every day

    Opinions please

    1991 1100M came with 40mm cv in the UK , if the bikes still got it's air box and the carbs look like this then they're stock These are flat slides notice the difference in the carbs top What are the 36mm carbs off ? Mk 1 bandit 1200 and gsxr 750/1100 bst carbs have different spacing to the bsr carbs off mk2 bandits and 750 98 on teapots and each spacing set requires matching rubbers ( see @Dezza sticky on this subject) The easiest way to fit the 36s assuming they're gsxr1100 K or L carbs would be acquire inlet rubbers to suit , stage 3 dynojet kit for carbs and k&n twin oval filters saves pissing around trying to source air box rubbers Etc
  7. If you got it blasted an coated with the chrome effect powder it would look alloy and be original to the bike ( assuming it is) or is it too narrow for a 180 ? Edit : compared to the original equipment arms of the time it's chunky...

  9. There's always someone who thinks that it's worth a try to fob their old junk off on an unsuspecting innocent, or is convinced that the "classic" in the title of the ad is cash in the bank at least @KennyKak had the sense to ask advice
  10. Keep looking for a decent pair or if budget allows ask Kent cams about a pair of reground/ reprofiled cams - you then have an opportunity to step up to gsxr type fast road cams if you want and your not buying anyone else's junk just a thought... The bandit stuff is 17+ years old ,gsxr 30+
  11. If your powder coaters do the chrome effect it'll look like polished alloy ....... On a foggy day , if you squint a bit ,seriously though I think the only thing is that it's not as chunky as the alloy arms we're used to seeing now

Yep , do it once do , it properly , I'm sure that in the waiting period for the big bits of the Throwback to return there's enough bits to rebuild and refinish rather than pull this into its constituent parts just yet. I have to say with your black ET, the Throwback, and now the Dresda it's quite the GSX collection Edit : maybe trial fit one of the GSX motors just to make sure everything lines up ok ?
  14. As has been mentioned in a couple of threads 750 j/k inlet rubbers an carb tops (36mm) are shorter but appear to be rocking horse approaching unicorn poop....
  15. Wise move having the engine checked/rebuilt by someone you trust hopefully it'll be fine and it'll "only" cost you labour and a gasket set, but the peace of mind is priceless ,tis a good looking piece of kit

    As above, most run after market coolers ,not that the stock cooler is ineffective, mostly for a safety margin and cos they look cool ,mocal and hel are good brand names but plenty of chinesium ones used too
  17. Have you got a complete and running gsx motor rather than having to buy a gs ? Why spend ££££ on a motor your not going to keep? Either the gsx will fit or not
  18. The gsx1170 motor would be the right choice over an oil cooled one in my opinion, gs 1085 would be nice but you seem to have a few air cooled motors awaiting good homes

Dot head will give a compression bump but could cause issues with the carbs fouling the tank as the inlet ports are angled upward by about 15° ,the gsxr 750 j+k that had this head used shorter intake rubbers ( no longer available new )and lower carb tops to avoid clearance problems ,the g cams if the same as the the 1100f are probably the best all round cams . The dot head swap seems a cheap boost but brings potential pitfalls too with tank /carb clearance problems
  20. I believe that the RF stem also narrows at the top and requires a upside down style spacer/washer for the b12 top yoke there will be a few you tube vids showing b12 yoke conversion to give you an idea of what I mean
  21. A nice glimpse into the past and a bike (and rider) many thought were the dogs wotsits at the time, but it shows how time moves on relentlessly and how the likes of FBM and others have made turbos more accessible as well as more powerful

It seems that many parts used in a "performance" build aren't strictly needed but are used because of the extra safety margin they provide and as @imagosays are generally a small price to pay for that peace of mind ,and especially on stuff that's 40 years old and getting rarer and more expensive to find . £160 for the gears vs cost of a turbo rebuild because the bearings are shot is cheap insurance
