  1. Ah, that's a stray SR500 carb I using to test my new ultrasonic cleaner.
  2. So I'm going to build a new motor for next year, based on a Bandit 1200 with a dot head, 6 speed box and hopefully a slipper clutch. Shit's just got serious
  3. Yeah it's pants, but the intent and reasoning of the organisers is fair.
  4. I've got the same issue with my licence. It's rediculous, I can race a 200bhp modern in endurance on a novice bib, but not a 100bhp classic. Harumph.
  5. I loved the front end feel on my Srad 600, I had the same springs as now, and did a ghetto mod to the shim stacks, but that was 10+ years ago and I'm 10+ seconds a lap faster round most circuits now. The front tyre now starts to hop across the track if I really load it up and carry lots of speed into a corner. I need to understand what is going on before I start throwing other forks at the bike. I suspect I need to go stiffer on the springs, and need much better damping control. I believe Maxton do a cartridge kit for my current forks so I'll probably talk to them next, that's going to be spendy though. The other thought is that maybe the frame is starting to flex now and causing the hopping. Mean while the bog stock £30 2005 r6 rear shock is doing a top job. No fade, perfect tyre wear, lots of grip, with only the occasional, very progressive slides on power.
  6. Just got back from a spot of winter testing down in Jerez. Bike is in interim spec at the momment but still going well after it's lie down at Snet. It does seem that I've reached the performance limit of a stock but resprung set of 750j/k forks. Need to investigate improvements to them before next year.
  7. I use EBC HH pads on my race bike. I like them. Fit a modern Brembo radial mastercylinder too if the budget allows.
  8. Put fishing line in your mig welder. It works a treat...
  9. Depends on the MC, but yeah like for like you would. I'll ask my mate measure them up.
  10. I could be wrong on this, but was told the pistons are bigger on the Triumph versions. Price is luck off the draw on ebray, my buddy paid peanuts for the set he bought.
  11. I run srad 750 6pots wit a brembo mc on my race bike. I'm more than happy with them, they're easily enough to tie me and the chassis in knots. A mate of mine runs some nissin 4pots from some sort of Triumph, which he raves about, they're a straight swap for Suzuki 4 and 6pots and can picked up for peanuts. They do have "Triumph" cast into them though......
  12. I had to make up a few spacers/sleaves to get them to fit but no biggy, the slingshot discs bolted straight on, I used the rear disc that came with the wheels, but i've no idea what it's off, it's got a big offset on it, unlike any oil cooled suzuki, lined up perfect with the slabbie caliper hanger though. Let us know if you want to get rid off any of the oldmans stash, that tatty old Ducati is only taking up shed space.....
  13. Make sure you get the cush drive and sprocket too, as they're different. You'll probably want a 750L/m rear sprocket as the 1100 runs a bigger rear sprocket. BMW s1000rr rear shock is supposed to be a good swap.
  14. Spike at Raggededgeracing. http://www.raggededgeracing.com/
  15. 2 weeks till I load this on a truck to Jerez. Best I crack on then. Fairing bracket Oil cooler mount all tacked up Fairing mocked up in place, and fuel tanks started I reckon this tank could well finish me. Sorry about the flaky pictures.
  16. I disagree with that. In 82 it was acceptable to reframe a GS1000 with a Harris frame, and assume it's Id. Like the same bike could of been legitimately been converted to a GSXR1100 engine in the early 90s. The bikes been legal for 30 years, it's still legal now. The q plate is a different kettle of fish to this discussion. Not all bike that need an MSVA will get a Q plate.
  17. It was a project from a few years back, supposed to be my interpretation of an Egli Vincent. I abandonded it when I realised the TR1 engine weighed more than a small block Chevy. Might have to dust off the jig when I've got the current projects under control.
  18. Fuck me, that looks lively! I'm not sure what good a steering damper will do when the front wheel's never on the ground.
  19. That's a Ducati 916sp/sps/strada subframe, that's been cut and shut. Worth a small fortune in un modified condition. Subframe is fine. The mount's that are welded to the frame need beefing up, they will break. Please redesign them so they can be welded on properly.
  20. I'm sure VOSA regs , and it's VOSA who are supposed to be responsible for this not the DVLA, say that the main hoop of the frame has to be original, but you can modify the seat rails or mono shock a frame. Re making a frame around an existing headstock, or new numbers on a replacement frame from a different manufacturer are a big no no. Unlikely to get a frame crushed, but the DVLA can withdraw your log book. Plenty of people get away with it, and we're all big boys on here, but understand the law and then chose whether to accept the risks. Especially if you're selling these bikes on. Oh and make sure you have a friendly MOT tester. It is a stupid grey area though. Take a 90's Spondon for example, built before these rules were introduced, so has grandfather rights so could almost legitimately be running round registered as 1200 bandit or gsx1100. There's no record of when such bikes were re framed or modified, but I believe if there's doubt VOSA. can ask for photos or evidence of when the bike was converted. Good luck fighting with VoSA or the DVLA on this, half the time they don't know there own rules. Happy to be corrected on any of this if you can point me towards the relative documents.
  21. Already got that, and my own drawings with more modern geometry, fork, tyre sizes, though that was based on a TR1 engine. Doh.
  22. I have a hot 1216 motor, a set of Dymags, a frame jig, and a piece of 120mm diameter 4130 cro-mo tube for the the spine. I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the workshop this winter....
