  1. Hard to say. I bought a Subaru Outback with a cooked flat 6 engine, cylinders needed to be bored and oversized pistons. The only pistons I could find, or better, the only company who actually could delivered, was MAG engines from the United Arabic Emirates, those pistons were that cheap, it couldn't be good.. About $30 per piston... I send them an E-mail asking about the quality, because they're very cheap. I was told that they're in a country were there's a parts shop on almost every street corner, so the margins are very small.. Ordered them, pistons looked alright actually, about the same as the OEM ones. After about 4 months later the engine suffered from a spun big end bearing, so I took the engine apart, pistons were/are in very good condition. The GS is not a high performance engine, I think I would take the risk
  2. You probably need an offset sprocket at the front. The carrier of the GS might fit the Bandit wheels. The carrier of my GS1000 fitted the RF900 wheel.
  3. I've got a GSX basket in my GS1000, need to take about 8mm off IIRC Spacer doesn't work, because the basket sits behind a part of the crankcase
  4. Not too long is about 1.5 years, it became stiffer afterwards
  5. How much will it cost to install an EFI? I'm sometimes thinking about it..
  6. The switch has been dismanteled not too long ago, was going reasonable after that, but not like new, lately it's getting stiff more and more
  7. Boys and girl, are there females on this forum? On my GS1000 I've got the light switches of my old GS750 from 1976, so they're 46 years old now. The indicator switch is getting a bit stiff, what's the best way to lubricate it? Oil and grease isn't conductive, so I think that's not suitable for the job I guess? Thanks
  8. My big bore GS1000 gets about 130 degrees C at the head after a proper ride. Winter or summer doesn't seem to matter very much, must say I'm not riding below 10 dgrees, Yes I'm a soft c*ck
  9. I took a brush and liquid gasket / gasket maker, and brushed gasket all around the liners, let that dry, and it works perfect.
  10. You can bore up the holes for the cylinder studs by 1mm, then you don't need external oil feed. You also need to drill the hole in the head till you reach the oil galley to the cams Don't forget to drill the hole in the headgasket too
  11. Thanks. I thought you'd run about 10.000rpm. I think the GS and GSX didn't have limiters, but they don't rev that high anyway, I think. Your pistons are most likely more heavy then mine, so I should be all right revving it to 10.000rpm? I already thought this, but wasn't sure. It's a matter of better save then sorry. Expensive hobby when it goes wrong
  12. Gents, I've got a GS1000 with a 1247cc big bore on it, I have 493 con rods on it. I've gor forged pistons in it who weigh 257 grams each. My rev limiter is set at 9000rpm. My question; I don't have a clue how many revs my engine can do without blowing up. I know that piston speed is a very important thing. I don't have a clue if the weight of the piston is a limit in the amount of revs it can make. As far as my information goes a GSX1100 goes to 10.000rpm? Anyone who knows a thing or 2 in this regard? Thanks
  13. Thought so, wasn't sure. That's all in that kit

  15. The con rod on the crank is from a GS1000
  16. That's when a con rod of my bike snapped
  17. Weld wise I wouldn't be too worried! But your rods, are that 492's? My 493's have very clear 493 on it, my stock GS1000 haven't got a real number on them.. I was told my stock rods should be able to handle 200hp, but one snapped, or they can't handle 200hp, or I accidently did something right..
  18. 492 should be strong enough! I'm aware about the other stuff you mention, that's why I don't have the guts to go above 9000rpm. I hardly go over 7000rpm
  19. 492 rods? How/where is it welded?
  20. Not sure how the swing arm looks like, but what I can find on the www, isn't the Bandit swingarm way better? Looks and size/strength wise?
  21. I'm pretty sure there's a guy, he might be on OSS, who put a GSX1100 and later an oil boiler in a GS550 frame. @bruteforce, wasn't that you?
  22. I think it might be something in the alternator cover
