  1. Peeps,my brother recently passed away bless him leaving me with various bits of bikes that he didn't want/need/couldn't fix etc... Among these was an RGV 250 engine wrapped in an old sheet which has been in my shed for 6yrs now.I took a peek and unfortunately it is missing one of its barrels and head.I am unsure which one until I move the pile of other stuff in its way. Before I decide what to do with it are there any numbers I should be looking for as to the exact model of engine it is? Thanks guys.

I would use filler with a back purge wherever possible...Fusing (autogeneous welding) may look neat and tidy but you are only melting the two parent metals together...This is not the strongest method especially in the use of stainless...That's not to say you can't fuse weld.I have many a time on exhausts but on a turbo manifold I would recommend filler and purge to avoid nasty oxy-snot on the inside....plus with fusing you want the joins to be perfect...with filler you have a little more lenience on gaps etc. Now I have said that, the amount of times I have tried to break a fused tack weld only to end up chucking the damn thing across the shed because it wont break
  3. Spamwood....I have just come over all funny...that bike looks the nuts...
  4. Working this weekend in Bury unfortunately....otherwise I would have, even if it was just to see your cats lol
  5. Fantastic mate.....Let me know if I can return the favour
  6. Nice one....how much are you looking for it Vizman?
  7. I have been reading a lot about these quickshift/air shifter debates recently...it seems when installed correctly the air type should work well although you do have the extra weight/size of a bottle although these seem to be quicker to shift ,however,a quickshifter does seem to be favoured by the street peeps too.....hmmmm
  8. Okay, I have just fitted the new Talon sprocket and heavy duty chain and custom dog-bones to the EFE ready for when it gets warm enough outside (I'm no fair weather rider,it's just trying to go to the loo after a ride is damn near impossible) although I still need to get the carb rubbers replaced before I get it back on the road. Anyhow,my friend and I were talking about the merits of air shifters on bikes. He is slowly getting more involved in vintage drag racing and I often tag along to watch or have a go myself. He is trying to twist my arm saying I should get an airshifter as it would improve times and look/sound pretty trick...(along with the 1230 MTC kit and Rs Mikuni's) The thing is I know he is right in saying it can improve times but while I would love to get a little quicker on the strip I have to justify the expense of such a kit....This is a street bike firstly and a tack bike second.I am always on a budget unfortunately. Have any of you guys used these?...are they worthwhile seeing as I would only use it from time to time?....I have looked into it and I have seen the likes of Pingle,MPS etc and they do have a 'starter/universal' kit but do these come with an ignition kill,I am unsure. I am a sucker for trick bits but to be truthful I do need to perfect one or two other little areas first on the bike. Any thoughts.Pro and cons.
  9. So,do you want to bin the end can/silencer??...if so can you not simply extend the pipe from where you cut it off?...or are you thinking of replacing more than just the silencer itself?...If you are planning more than just a simple cut and shut then you will be looking at purchasing bends/elbows and getting them welded to suit and then you will have a custom exhaust... However, would you want it that loud?..you could perhaps buy an aftermarket silencer and still retain some form of exhaust 'note'....I had one of these bikes some years ago for a commuter and I swapped out the silencer for a universal alloy one and it sounded pretty fruity yet still kept the mot man happy... Either way you will need to do some form of fabricating I guess as off the shelf exhausts for these are not that plentiful...
  10. Yes they are.....hence the question as to whether they would be ok but not being an exspurt I couldn't tell you if the dimensions will be of any use lol.. Any hoo here is what I have...bottom of skirt to piston top is 54.30mm and bottom of gudgeon pin hole is 37.20mm (20mm gudgeon pin)...27.20mm if you go to the pin centre.
  11. My Dad was a former Navy man.....albeit Dutch...that explains a few things!!!!!! I do have some EFE pistons kicking about the shed, would those dimensions do you?
  12. Loving the bike and the ACDC was a much better choice
  13. Just a thought...what are peoples plans for staying over at Donny??...The reason I ask is last year on the Friday I managed to find a spot on a small area of grass to pitch a tent near to YoshiJonny but had I got there a little later I would have missed out as places were filling fast...I may have my lad with me again this year and I do not fancy setting up on the hard stuff lol..I see there is a private camp site near to the track, has anybody used this before?...or maybe the infield...I saw a few guys set up there too which could be good for watching the track action but I am unsure how you go about going on and off the track for the track day??....If I had a motor home it would be so much easier
  14. I did originally type it in without the 1 in front but all I got in return was a load of spreadsheets for the American media or something lol....I will have another go I've ordered a standard 16t and I will machine a spacer to suit...that will sort it
  15. I have a 17t sprocket I am wanting to replace with a 16t but I am unsure as to which make/model the 17 came off originally as it is not your standard EFE sprocket...I do have a code on the 17..it is JTF 1531-17 which relates to a JT sprocket but the one they list with that number has different dimensions to mine.I have searched for hours on various sites including the very informative JT site itself which has a sprocket almost identical to the one I need but only in 15t sizing, this has the code JTF 1535..This comes from a zx6r which would tally up with the zx7r back wheel/sprocket (in that it's all kwakanacker)...Yet when I type in a search for a 16t to fit a zx6r they do not share the same dimensions as the one on JT's site.... My sprocket is near as dammit 16mm thick, stepped on the back, flush on the front,to fit a 530 chain...(it has two 6mm tapped holes close to the shaft hole.ooer) Does anyone have an idea what it could be...I do not want to have to buy half a dozen sprockets hoping to get lucky!!...it's either this or buy a flush 16t and space it out accordingly but I have a straight chain run with what I have and it's just easier to replace like for like...Cheers peeps.
  16. Do those dotted lines refer to bend lines?..for welding to frame perhaps?
  17. Are these the ones that had a 'squashed' profile on the downpipes...ie like a cobra (hence the serpent name).....I always wondered if they actually worked or not!
  18. Have you any pics of said bikes??
  19. Seeing as last year was a good crack I will be going again...still not decided on track time yet as I haven't had much chance to road test the bike since lowering it before winter...It really depends on the exhaust as it could ground out but if it is a no noise limit day again then I could always whip it off .........Well..it's been paid for so I guess track time it is...Inters along with the other loons
  20. Gixxer1460 told me once try to aim for a ratio of around 3.00 which helped me decide what size sprockets to buy...I used this pic as a quick reference too
  21. Would I be right in thinking ( I am comparing these carbs with mine) that number 3 carb is set from factory and not adjustable for balancing??...In other words the rest have to be set around this one. I found changing the air jets helped with low throttle fuelling although my slides rattle which points to worn parts hence a slightly lumpy idle. Another tip I found useful is obtain an infra red thermometer, this helped me identify which downpipe was getting hotter/colder than others which can also point toward improper fuelling in individual carbs.
  22. I reckon any RGV attending the stand should come with a free 'ticket to ride' for OSSers......
  23. Did you WOT when testing the compression?
  24. I'm digging the Blue and White 'Gloria'......
