sgm Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Hey guys, looking for some advice. My inazuma 7/12 has a k5 1000 front end fitted with a standard inazuma front wheel fitted including a very thin speedo drive from a Harley. I didn't notice until lately the discs are too small (310 mm) It was only when I started using the bike that I could see the pads were not grabbing the whole discs. I really want to retain the mechanical speedo . Here are the options that i've looked into. Find 320 discs that have an offset and have same bolt pattern, Use GSX1400 or Hayabusa wheel ( but then I lose speedo drive, or get spacers made up to take busa or 1400 discs (which have no offset) to take the discs out to where the offset ones are. Obviously my best bet would be to find offset discs at 320 with same bolt pattern. Thought about getting a GPS speedo but then I have to dig all the guts out of the original to fit it. Would really like to keep the clocks as is. Does anyone know of discs that would fit ? I've looked a lot and found nothing, thanks in advance to all replies. $teve. PS the busa and 1400 have different bolt pattern to my wheel so that's more ballache. Quote
Upshotknothole Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) You could also find some calipers that would require spacers and run slightly smaller spacers that'll get the calipers to line up with your rotors. Probably easier than searching for 320 rotors that'll fit an Inazuma wheel. 1000RR or R1 monoblocks would be my first guess for what would work. The h*nda ones tend to be cheaper and easier to find. How would that work ? they are radial calipers Quote
Joseph Posted September 9 Posted September 9 If you can take your caliper to a machine shop could you maybe have them shave down the caliper where it bolts to the fork ? No idea if theres enough metal to do so but that could work ? Quote
Joseph Posted September 9 Posted September 9 SRAD have 320 discs but no idea about the bolt pattern compared to Inazuma Quote
Upshotknothole Posted September 9 Posted September 9 When you swap radial calipers onto other forks, a lot of times you have to use spacers to get the to the correct height. 1000RR calipers sit really low and use spacers to sit at the right height. Makes them easy to swap onto to other forks and adjust the spacer height. If you look on Eblag and compare 05 1K calipers to similar year 1000RR calipers, you'll see what I mean. 2 minutes ago, Joseph said: If you can take your caliper to a machine shop could you maybe have them shave down the caliper where it bolts to the fork ? sgm Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Thanks for all the replies lads. Don't think there is enough meat on the calipers to mill them down or the forks, besides the calipers are Brembo so not keen in altering them, think my only option is to get spacers made up, Cheers $ Quote
Upshotknothole Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Post up a photo of your current setup. What bike are the Brembos off of? Quote
sgm Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 You can see the witness marks on the discs where the pads are not touching them. No idea what the calipers are off, just know they are monoblock. Quote
baldrick Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) the disc doctor made me upo a one off disc for the back wheel of my busa. they do fronts too, and they werent expensive imho. could possibly keep the carriers and just fit a larger diamater disc Edited September 9 by baldrick Quote

Might give them a shout. Only thing is if I get spacers made up I can use standard discs forever. The spacers are going to be expensive from my local Engineering shop but I'll check the doctor first. Thanks for that, $ 1 Quote

coombehouse Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Before you spend any money, check that 320mm will solve your issue. Looking at the photo, it looks like there's more unswept area than the extra 5mm you will gain by changing discs. Personally I would machine the calipers or fork mounts. 1 Quote

Yeah, do what they said and take some measurements first. And like was said previously, your calipers are upsides down. Lastly, the only thing standardized with radial calipers was the spacing, well the two spacing options, the fork mounts and caliper height all vary greatly depending on what bike they came off of. The easy ones to set up are the ones that require a spacer to set the caliper height, your combination has the calipers setup for at least a 320 rotor, if not a 325-330 rotor. The reason I suggested the 1000RR calipers earlier was because I've used them before and I know they tend to sit really low on other forks and require spacers, makes them easy to fine tune the height. With your current setup, I think you have 3 options. Measure up the rotor size you actually need with those calipers, they're gonna be huge, and get them custom made. Machine down either the forks or calipers to bring the calipers down to a standard height, you can't even tell when they're on the bike, and those calipers definitely have enough meat. Or find different calipers that sit lower, keep your current rotors, but swap out those brake lines as they're going to be too long. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Gold calipers were stock(and crap), black calipers are h*nda monoblocks. That gap is how far out the Tokico calipers need to sit to clear the rotors. And here's the final setup, still has 320 rotors, with spacers installed and the calipers are sitting right where they should on the rotors. 5 Quote
Duckndive Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Guy of the TL forums Sam "Berriman" think..his email is on the attached copy ..who did the fork chart "Sams Fork Chart" Has disc and caliper info on it as he Also did fitting kits to swop various Radial Calipers onto Different Forks... 2 Quote

Have to agree with that statement - appears only inner third is 'shiny' and being used - outer 2/3rds is dull and un-used? What does the other / reverse side of disc look like as possibly caliper isn't square to disc? Quote
Dezza Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I'd put the calipers on the right way round first, then go from there. Quote

The busa disc, ( the part that holds the actual braking part , arms are longer) has a bigger diameter so the disc is further out so as said before if I get a spacer made up I can use either GSX14 or Busa discs or any other 320 discs plus I keep the speedo drive, important to me. Also want to keep the Brembos, god knows they cost me enough. Busa etc wheels have a wider hub which goes straight in but no speedo drive. Quote

Best off just making 320 discs with the correct offset and bolt pattern or using disc spacers which will probably cost the same and be bulky 1 Quote
McLean Racing Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Looking on various database's, theres no 320mm disks with that offset or pcd Quote
