Another Newbie!

Hello All,

At the risk of showing the uncoolest bike on the site, here are some pics of my almost stock GS750L. It came to me via my Brother who had it sat in his garage for the last 20 years - he needed it gone and I hadn't had a project bike in years.

It almost didn't happen as you know these things turn into much bigger jobs than you first expect. Grand schemes turn into 'throw it together and get it MOT'd'

Ii ended up being cheaper to put it back together more or less as it was (less the stupid ape hangers). I wasn't expecting much but once the carbs were sorted out it goes like stink (well for an old 'un anyway). It might not get as much attention at the local as my mates trendy 'classic' two stroke but at least mine works!

In its own way Its brilliant  - its the best laugh on a bike I've had on a bike in years, which is what it's all about.

Great new site by the way

Andy

Thanks for the welcome.

The bike is a US import. My brother bought it from a dealer in Sheffield in '94, he used it for a year or two including having it written off by some woman driver.

The tank was still full of stale petrol and rust nearly 20 years later - had to soak it in a citric acid bath for over a week!

Bro' had a problem with the carb fuel tee piece and had one made up - it still doesn't leak so I didn't want to split the carbs.

It wouldn't run at first on cyl 2 at idle (exhaust pipe cold), sorted that and then it went on cyl 4 and it took a few attempts to flush the pilot circuits out.

This helped a lot:

I ended up having to take out the mixture screws your not supposed to mess with  - it ran loads better but a bit fluffy on take off. In desperation I got hold of one of those colourtune plugs and it actually worked a treat.
