  1. I know y'all like pictures so here's a couple of my new seat. Not sure it quite achieves the 'flat track' look but as the missus never goes on a bike these days I don't need a bloody king and queen seat!
  2. I too am a bit OCD and suffer from rattle paranoia despite 10 years of intensive Guzzi therapy in the 90's and it never goes away - fancy starting a support group? Does yours sound anything like the one in this video? This guy recons it was a worn cam bucket - he's got another clip with the bike sounding a bit quieter after replacing some buckets. Somebody comments it could be linked to the starter clutch. Mine's not quite as bad as this but sounds something similar, has done for the last three years, I've stopped worrying about this one......

    ET tanks

Been browsing the usual places maybe looking for an ET. Did only the UK bikes get the 'humpy' or larger tank? I'd previously thought the US GS---ET had the smaller tanks but I've just seen some euro import GSX's with the small tank also. The smaller tanks don't look right to me - what does everybody else think? big tanks hard to come by?
  4. I must admit to being a tight get so took a chance on a £15 superdream unit off that well known auction site and it works spot on on my old 750. The H*nda ones are '6 wire' and have an additional voltage reference wire over the suzuki units - this extra wire needs wiring in to a live feed switched via the ignition switch. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/storagecliff/images/r-r_replacement.pdf If you're going for a new unit then I'd go with the GS specific one. Andy
  5. If your generator / stators OK then a superdream reg/rec is as good as anything
  6. Vizman said it - it was what you fitted when your standard tin one inevitably rotted through - retro cool tho? M&P still do one very similar.
  7. Captain Chaos is quite right, what am I thinking the '30' bit refers to the chain width and its the same on the 530 and 630. What's thrown me is that it looks huge compared to the chain on the blandit, which turns out is a 525. The 630 I've got is a DID heavy duty o-ring job and its over an inch wide - I guess o-ring chains weren't fitted in '79 so the original chain may have been narrower. A new 530 setup would be quite a bit cheaper than a 630 but by the looks of it it may outlast me anyway!
  8. My old GS is still running a 630 chain, which looks like something off an old steam lorry. Its way too big for the power output and as it's o-ring it's even wider than Suzuki intended and rubs on stuff it shouldn't. If I swap down to say 530 - how do I work out the proper length? - i'd sooner buy an endless chain of correct size. Would you keep the same number of teeth on each sprocket to keep ratio same or would that make diameter of front sprock too small? Cheers Andy
  9. Thanks for the welcome. The bike is a US import. My brother bought it from a dealer in Sheffield in '94, he used it for a year or two including having it written off by some woman driver. The tank was still full of stale petrol and rust nearly 20 years later - had to soak it in a citric acid bath for over a week! Bro' had a problem with the carb fuel tee piece and had one made up - it still doesn't leak so I didn't want to split the carbs. It wouldn't run at first on cyl 2 at idle (exhaust pipe cold), sorted that and then it went on cyl 4 and it took a few attempts to flush the pilot circuits out. This helped a lot: VM26 pilot cleaning procedure (1/1) - Forum - KZrider.com I ended up having to take out the mixture screws your not supposed to mess with - it ran loads better but a bit fluffy on take off. In desperation I got hold of one of those colourtune plugs and it actually worked a treat. Andy
  10. Hello All, At the risk of showing the uncoolest bike on the site, here are some pics of my almost stock GS750L. It came to me via my Brother who had it sat in his garage for the last 20 years - he needed it gone and I hadn't had a project bike in years. It almost didn't happen as you know these things turn into much bigger jobs than you first expect. Grand schemes turn into 'throw it together and get it MOT'd' Ii ended up being cheaper to put it back together more or less as it was (less the stupid ape hangers). I wasn't expecting much but once the carbs were sorted out it goes like stink (well for an old 'un anyway). It might not get as much attention at the local as my mates trendy 'classic' two stroke but at least mine works! In its own way Its brilliant - its the best laugh on a bike I've had on a bike in years, which is what it's all about. Great new site by the way Andy
