Maddog Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Hello All, At the risk of showing the uncoolest bike on the site, here are some pics of my almost stock GS750L. It came to me via my Brother who had it sat in his garage for the last 20 years - he needed it gone and I hadn't had a project bike in years. It almost didn't happen as you know these things turn into much bigger jobs than you first expect. Grand schemes turn into 'throw it together and get it MOT'd' Ii ended up being cheaper to put it back together more or less as it was (less the stupid ape hangers). I wasn't expecting much but once the carbs were sorted out it goes like stink (well for an old 'un anyway). It might not get as much attention at the local as my mates trendy 'classic' two stroke but at least mine works! In its own way Its brilliant - its the best laugh on a bike I've had on a bike in years, which is what it's all about. Great new site by the way Andy 3 Quote
KATANAMANGLER Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I regard the GS 750 as the best of Suzikis air cooled 750 engines. 8 valves and a roller bearing crank. Simple, bullet proof and effective Welcome. Don't worry if you end up getting carried away, over ambitious and devoid of any and all disposable income. You'll be in good company 1 Quote
berty Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) Certainly nothing wrong with that bit of history . Good for another 40 years i recon . Welcome !!! Edited February 5, 2016 by berty Typo Quote
Dezza Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 The 750 is a great bike so ignore anyone who is ignorant enough to argue the opposite. Was the L model ever an official UK model? I am assuming the bike in the photo is a US import, what with the side reflector Quote
Blubber Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Having owned a gs750L myself for a few months... let's say the engine is the best part. ( Buying one was cheaper than renting a bike for a week) Quote
Markz9 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 it looks in pretty good nick how bad were the carbs gummed up ? Quote
wraith Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Looks good to me, the gs750 is a great bike. Welcome to OSS, you will now start looking at putting moben running gear on it and a gs850 top end. LOL Quote
Maddog Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 Thanks for the welcome. The bike is a US import. My brother bought it from a dealer in Sheffield in '94, he used it for a year or two including having it written off by some woman driver. The tank was still full of stale petrol and rust nearly 20 years later - had to soak it in a citric acid bath for over a week! Bro' had a problem with the carb fuel tee piece and had one made up - it still doesn't leak so I didn't want to split the carbs. It wouldn't run at first on cyl 2 at idle (exhaust pipe cold), sorted that and then it went on cyl 4 and it took a few attempts to flush the pilot circuits out. This helped a lot: VM26 pilot cleaning procedure (1/1) - Forum - KZrider.com I ended up having to take out the mixture screws your not supposed to mess with - it ran loads better but a bit fluffy on take off. In desperation I got hold of one of those colourtune plugs and it actually worked a treat. Andy Quote
teltwosheds Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Hello and welcome Yeh those colourtuners are well worth it when you have to mess with mixture screws. Espescialy if they've been over tightened Quote
