clivegto Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Been looking for some small spot lights to replace the dominator style lights on the Spondon. Found some 90mm ones this week which arrived today. 3 Quote

Wagola Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Looks good but I think I prefer the 'stacked' look. Quote

clivegto Posted December 14, 2022 Author Posted December 14, 2022 A mock up in cad of a possible subframe solution 3 Quote
clivegto Posted December 18, 2022 Author Posted December 18, 2022 I decided to mock the subframe up in 3mm aluminium, (had a old road sign on the scrap heap for years) it only needs to support the side panels, back light and maybe a oil cooler as the main frame has a good subframe for the seat. Also used a bit of 15x50mm flat bar I had. If I'm not happy with the strength I will get some thicker stuff to remake it. Did someone say you can't cut round corners with Mr Grinder. 2 Quote
Dezza Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 If you intend on fitting an oil cooler in there, it may be prudent to first take some measurements from the intended cooler (or similar) before you decide on the final width between the subframe spars. Are you putting the battery in the tail too? From memory, those frames leave much space under the tank, easily enough for a large battery, and that was with the much larger air cooled engine fitted. Quote
clivegto Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 Haven't got a intended cooler yet I might not even fit one in the seat unit but the spars are as far apart as is possible which just happens to be the distance of the old mounting points on the sides that were not in use when I got it. It's got a battery box under the tank which I plan on reusing. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 Went for a look in my stash for a cooler and found 2 to try. 1 19 row aftermarket and a curved gsxr one. Could probably get either to fit in fact the spares might be a little wide where they are righ now. Hears a picture of battery location as well 2 Quote
GeorgeEI7KO Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 I think the 'Stacked' Lights are cool. I'm going a slightly different route with the Lightbar nested underneath for main beam. The two spots will be low beam and they have the angel rings in as well which will cover the park lights. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Got another rgv250 seat in loads better condition than the one I had so had a play about with prototype seat mounts this afternoon without altering the original frame. Am happy with the riding position and tank mount accessibility so this might be a go. Also picked up some FZ1 wheels yesterday which look like Marchesini wheels. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted February 12, 2023 Author Posted February 12, 2023 Junked cunning plan A subframe. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted February 12, 2023 Author Posted February 12, 2023 Had a gsxr400 subframe. Chop chop with Mr Grinder. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted February 12, 2023 Author Posted February 12, 2023 It sits on top of the existing subframe and bolts on. Now the 400 subframe isn't the same as the rgv one but it's close. Had to move the seat loops and the bolting points for the rear of the plastics. Just have to trim the front of the panels but am happy with it at the moment 3 Quote
clivegto Posted February 13, 2023 Author Posted February 13, 2023 Trimmed the side panels this evening. 7 Quote
TonyGee Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 good job on the trimming Clive, fits great 1 Quote
bluedog59 Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 +1 on that. Get the tank/seat join wrong and it always looks like two bikes (badly) stuck together. 1 Quote
Svsam Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 That’s worked a treat Clive! I like the way it tucks under the tank. 1 Quote
