Hi I'm going to remove the head from my blandit 12 to re machine the exhaust studs.i have been told that you can re use the head gasket with giving it a coat of primer is that right.if a new head gasket is needed do I go genuine or are there decent pattern ones available

Thanks

If the gasket was relatively new i'd be tempted but one that is squished and work hardened through years of use can't be trusted with just a bit of primer. Unless used for all out racing, then pattern gaskets are suitable alternative to OEM.

just think of all the work involved in taking a head off and putting it back on.  you fire it up and a few miles down the road theirs a leak !!!!!  is it worth the risk ?  and be  careful about the front oil drain tubes, they tend to leak sometimes form the top O ring. they are worth replacing as well BUT use OEM seals as they are an odd size.

4 x drain o rings and 6 x head o rings £76.was a little surprised with the cost :|

Always wait until Robinsons have a sale on certain model spares, then ... buy in bulk!;)

I have reused them by spraying primer on them after seeing Gary do it on hear years ago. When buying new I use Cometic head gaskets, only use Suzuki O rings though.

It's the cost of the o'rings that wind me up too :(. Getting gaskets at reasonable prices is easier. I got a NOS OEM 1100 slabby head gasket for 20 quid a while back so just keep looking.
