pat64 Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Hi there.the tacho/rev counter on my gsx 1100s Katana seems to be a bit lazy at anything over 2000rpm,it'll go to 2500rpm as per norm but it slows down becomes sluggish at any rpm after that to the point it won't go over 3000rpm no matter what revs the engine is at ,has anyone else had this,is there a fix for it,it's a 1982 model with electronic tacho/rev counter thanks.... Isleoman Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Is the speedometer cable screwed in tight at the wheel and at the valve cover? Quote

wraith Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 I had the same problem with a bike I've just built the clocks I was using the taco was slow like yours, tryed a different taco but with the had the same problem. Was starting to think it maybe wiring or CDI but then had to change the clocks of a new set (second hand) but when I fitted them the rec counter worked just fine. So must of been something in the clocks slowing the taco down. Quote

johnr Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 Itll be the electronics in the tacho, bit of corrosion or dirt and they're all jammed up. You're gonna have to strip the clocks, not simple but doable with extreme care. 1 Quote
Obsolete Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Hi did you ever find out/fix your Tacho? I have exactly the same problem. Quote
Dezza Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Connect another good Suzuki tacho and then you can determine if the tacho or wiring feed is at fault. I use a 600 teapot unit when wiring tachos. £10 at an autojumble. If it works fine the old unit is faulty; if it displays the same symptons as the old unit, there's something up in the feed. Quote
gorbys Posted August 7 Posted August 7 dirty connections, dirty/seized mechanical connections, whatever the cause the gauges need dissasembly Quote
Obsolete Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Thank you for the help, a strip down it is but I will try to source old clocks like you mentioned. Quote
