Yeah spoke to Harris, Lester himself actually! He suggested I get the bike on the road as is and just ride it to see how it rides with the very short trail/rake and length that the r1 front end gives before i buy anything. Im just weighing up options while other parts turn up as will be starting on the wiring soon Quote

clivegto Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 Think they may have original been designed for a Z stem but not 100% sure on this. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Dan the bottom yoke on the left is z1000mk2 the one one the right is for a mag2 they do appear to be the same length, but the z is fatter & welded onto the bottom yoke. 1 Quote
Dezza Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 About a 1000 years ago I used to have a stock efe front end on my magnum 2 and it's a simple bolt-on job after first removing the stock lock stops so stems must be compatible. 1 Quote
caferacerdan Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 cheers guys. got a slingshot stem here that I am gonna measure up too and see if that fits any better Quote
clivegto Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Slingshot one is to short, b12 one is to long. Tried both. 1 Quote

Dezza Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Whether the stem is too long or too short can depend on the the thickness of the top yoke. Same frame, same stem may work with one top yoke but not another 1 Quote

Hi Dan, yes you are right. I have dropped a 750m front end in mine. Only had to buy the correct head bearings and it went in ok. 1 Quote
caferacerdan Posted July 19, 2019 Author Posted July 19, 2019 Well the stem was an easy fix...and by easy I mean I took it off and sent it to Sam Baker who knocked me up a spacer to take up the difference and cut the stem down a bit. Now fits a treat and bars clear. (Ignore the half screwed on some nut) Since then I have stripped the old loom off and cleaned the bike up and once I get my electrics tray back from the welder I can knock up a simple loom for it. Also the new guage arrived to accompany the bars and custom top yoke too The previous owner had left the breather as an open pipe lying in the top of the engine bay and had covered the electrics and top of engine in shite. Anyone recommend a good catchtank setup? 1 Quote
Dezza Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 Why is your steering head bearing adjuster nut above the top yoke? 1 Quote

It isn't there is the steering head bearing adjuster below the yoke. The one on top is acting as a spacer to take up the gap between the yoke and the stem Quote
caferacerdan Posted October 22, 2019 Author Posted October 22, 2019 (edited) Slowly chipping away at this! Turns out the bars I wanted to run were not wide enough for all the right hand throttle, switchgear and brake to clear...the solution...bar extenders courtesy of our own Sam Baker and one of those fancy master cylinder fings Everything now fits the bars and yoke I have also nearly finished a steering stop using some delrin plastic and a homemade bracket where the fairing once lived (will add photos once its done) got all the wiring bits I need now too oh...ordered some velocity stacks for the carbs too and will try to figure out some sort of very fine mesh or something to act as a filter over the top of them. Fit no bother then! 3 Quote
caferacerdan Posted July 8, 2020 Author Posted July 8, 2020 Been a long time since I updated this thread but I have been busy. The bike has been completely rewired with a simple race loom with charging (although used a fusebox big enough to add lights when I want them) Built some simple steering stops The rear torque arm was not only hitting the exhaust but the tyre too! So after swapping the mount point and putting a bend in the rod we now have clearance The exhaust was also hitting the swingarm so a small bend in the bracket resolved that. Had to get my elbow dug in the tank too and clean out the old, dried and cracked POR-15 The bike then needed its suspension sorting since it has been sat so long. Had to do a bit of a custom job supporting the bike (yes that is my front room) Kais redid the front forks with custom springs for the extra weight, but sadly the rear shock needs too much work for the time frame I have currently...so I sourced a De Carbon shock...it turned up and one of the eyes was huge for some reason (18mm) despite having a bush...had a mate make a sleeve to sort that Also built a steering damper setup since the bike requires one for top speed events New tyres fitted all round and new wheel bearings too Along with completely rebuilt front callipers and pads and new custom brake lines from Mr. Hocking This gets us up to current Carbs go back on tomorrow after being ultrasonically stripped and cleaned and we will hopefully have 90% of the bike torqued up and the brakes bled so I can pull it outside and start it up and hope it runs OK in time for racing!! 4 Quote
