  1. Agree with @imago, sort fuelling out and start from there! Are you running pods or standard airbox?
  2. Agree!! Any good shop would at least of done a compression test and good shops are happy for you to ask questions, so if they start trying to fob you off you know they haven't got a clue sadly
  3. Gsx1100 and gs 850 work Will check the lock up later in the week, might have one you can have
  4. So it was 3 things Plug cap gone bad one of the wires from the pick up had a nic in it and was occasionally arcing out and I've got a bad carb!! Blocked somewhere, but can't find it at the moment
  5. Yes sparking, new plugs and changed in case it was faulty stripped carbs they are clean
  6. So my 1150 is running on 3 pots 4 cold as ice did initially think it was a cap as it was arcing out like Blackpool illuminations, cap changed,no difference coil changed same result,Coils swapped over still pot 4 and cap still arcing I'm now leaning towards the pickup being the issue but i thought i might harvest some knowledge from the forum just in case i can't see for looking bike running standard coils and pickup many thanks in advance
  7. My favourite bit is when the bloke in front slams on brake and stands it up mid corner
  8. As I tried to explain to a bloke on a shireblade if you do 100 on that the engine is hardly working and neither are you, do a 100 on an old suzie or brit, you can hear and feel the speed you can also hear all the nuts and bolts you didn't thread lock rattling themselves loose
  9. If you have access to a set of carbs that you know are good stick them on just to get it running, that way you can can rule out anything else, like timing!!!
  10. I highly recommend Saunders motor works in Cadnam, near Southampton, proper shop, have done, car, bike and tractor blocks for me over the years, though might be a bit far for you @baldrick
  11. Any good machine shop will only do the bore when they have the actual pistons at hand, so each bore and piston are matched, due to manufacturing discrepancies
  12. Glad you are up on your feet You are were lucky by the looks of the pictures Hope you you recover soon
  13. You answered your on question!! But you are right it is infuriating
  14. Had same issue with gs 1000 with pod filters, mine was to much direct air flow through the pods, used plastic cone inside each pod to cover 3 fifths of surface area on 1 and 4 little less on 2 and 3!! Took a little bit of trial and error, but ran great for 3 years after that!! But the great thing about this forum is there will be countless other ways people have achieved the same result, just got to find the one that works for you

    Bad running

Mind you, i am still convinced all these years later it was an earthing issue, God i hated that bike, even more than my ts 50

    Bad running

Had same problem with gsx 1100 f many years ago, changed pick up as a last throw of the dice and it sorted it, so hope it does the same for you! Much too nice to be broken up
  17. I have always soaked pistons in gas oil (red diesel), works well But if you have oil drum style barbecue, you can try the heat and cool route as suggested by @joseph Good luck
  18. She's a beauty, you've done a grand job
  19. Sounds like your bike hates yamaha parts Seriously though as already said, if you can raise or drop the forks through the yokes you should find the point it stops folding in
  20. I still have my box of letter punches But just for sentimental purposes
  21. As has already been said, a Q plate doesn't have the stigma of 20 years ago and you don't get penalised by insurance, if anything it shows you have done things like right way!! Remember all insurance companies first thought is how can I get out of paying for this
