  1. So, wide awake at 2am and I get to thinking... We know that forced induction increases the temperature of the inlet charge, which is why people fit intercoolers, charge coolers and water injection. So, with that in mind, what is the best finish for the plenum chamber? A polished plenum will reflect heat from the engine, but will also retain any heat built up in the plenum material. A satin finish will soak up radiated heat but will also radiate eat from itself better than the polished one. Powdercoating the plenum will be like covering it in a blanket and keep it hot. I've yet to see a forced induction bike fitted with the 'carb shields' that keep heat away from the carbs, would they be of equal or better efficiency that with a normally aspirated bike? Given that most of our bikes are cooled by air (yes, even oi boilers) why don't any plenums have finning? And the final question should i be taking sleeping tablets instead?...
  2. With Clive's pics and dimensions, and the pics in the Projects section, you should be able to construct a plenum to fit your carbs that should (note, 'should') fit your bke when it is all back together. But don;t blame us if it doesn't! :-) might be easier to just make up the plate to fit the carbs, and then wait until you have the engine in frame etc...
  3. Is everyone missing the obvious here? Surely the biggest bore on a GS1000 is Cockney Rick?...
  4. I had a pair of 750 ones chromed a few years ago, but they never got fitted to an engine, and I don't know where they are now anyway... #lostintheshed

    HPF1

Nice idea with the drain tubes, would make for a good aftermarket part if someone (ahem) was prepared to make a batch...
  6. Just repeating what I heard Dave, and had considered the fact that the red & white and various modified bikes were in attandance to be something of a contradiction. And while I know a lot of people had a very very good time at the show, I'll not be going... whenever (if ever?) the re-arranged date is.
  7. It might be something to do with the fact that the show's organiser doesn't like customised motorcycles nor the people who build them, he said something along the lines of "we don't want those kinds of people at our show..." I see that it has been postponed thanks to someone having a sniffle, cough or something...
  8. Bollocks. Same weekend as Stormin' the Castle (and it's the 30th too)...

    2020 Dyno Day

First weekend in June is CMM Classic track day at Cadwell, and 20-21 is Farmyard, and a fair few OSSers will be there... ;-)
  10. It's done on others because they need it, and Bandits don't, simples ;-) It's like reading that a bloke has to take tablets for low blood pressure so demanding that you have some, just because...
  11. The answer that is going to be forthcoming will be in the form of a question... Why? ;-)
  12. Ooh, that's tempting... but I gotta check the diary...
  13. It's an enjoyable show, very sociable, and made all the better by being able to blag a brew from Paul and Sam. Thanks all! ;-)
  14. Potentially Rob, any excuse to get north of the border! Not really sure whether I'll be able to, as yet though...
  15. Off the top of your head KM, what's the date of the Scottish Show? And nice one Wee Man ;-)
  16. Drag bike? Depending on the tracks that you use, you could remove one of the front discs and caliper, and go through the bike from front to back ensuring that all fasteners are the optimum sizes. A cable clutch conversion will be lighter than a hydraulic set-up, easily done using B600 parts. And then you need to start spending money - carbon fibre wheels, lightweight bodywork, ally tank titanium fasteners, spindles etc. Also remember that the Slabby was a very light bike as standard, the the GSX-R didn't return to the Slabby's weight for nigh on 20 years...
  17. Some may say that you shouldn't use the 600 ignition for the 1200 motor, thanks to the smaller engine;s higher rev limiter. Depends how you ride to be honest. You can't use the 600 alternator on the 12. Otherwise, keep the 600 loom, etc. Oh, and welcome to OSS.
  18. Looks ace, reminds me of Tommy Miceli's Godzuki.
  19. Echoing Flipper, I'd advise going for a 1216cc kit - it'll make for a physically stronger motor that will withstand heat and miles better than the more flexible sleeves resulting from a slightly larger bore. And remember, the 1216cc kit makes for a feckin' awesome road engine ;-)
  20. I'll be there ;-) Edit. Arses. Just realised that I've double-booked myself, and due at Founders Day near Rugby... might be able to call inmon way home, depending on what time the dyno is due to be running until...
  21. As intimated earlier, I'll not be able to take my space on track on Saturday, so it's up for grabs if anyone wants a play?... Let me know and I'll forward on the paperwork ;-) EDIT - Looks like it's been snapped up by a mover and shaker in the OSS world ;-)
