  1. shell vpower super unleaded apparently dosnt have the ethanol in it.
  2. take no notice, he's ex royal navy, he always tries to get newbies to look at his shitter, just keep your back to the wall.........
  3. its older than some katanas and gsxr's as well as any bandit, 1990 is oldskool to me, and the gs500 motor is essentially an updated gs450 which is a good old 2 valve aircooled suzuki lump, albeit lacking in cylinders.
  4. nope, it stops a broken chain from doing too much damage,
  5. have you tried the basics like changing the plugs? doesnt sound lik an ignition fault as the coils are paired 1+4 and 2+3 so an ignition fault on either circuit would take out that pair. but you have one from each pair running which suggests fueling. carbs could be flooding, but tbh there are a lot of other variables that need to be taken into account. so, compression test first, then if thats ok, fresh plugs, then carbs.
  6. well yeah, but theyre out there, if you look. i found a set and it didnt take me long,
  7. bit of a late contribution to this regarding wheels, but if you like the period look of the katana /gs style 'snowflake' pattern wheels, then look at the wheels from the katana 400, theyre the same spoke pattern as thee old kats, but considerably lighter, and much wider, so the rear is 17 inch and will take a 160 tyre, the front is an 18 inch as opposed to the kats 19 inch, but also is much wider and lighter than the stock wheels, but they have the same pattern so unless you have them side by side, you wont notice. the fronts also have reasonably big modern floating disks.
  8. drain it, put fresh oil and filter in it, do a compression test. if its ok, then just run it and see how it goes. if its fucked and needs rebuilding then its fucked and needs a rebuild anyhow....
  9. too much money and also has the horrible compromise rear indicators as opposed to the ones built into the tailpiece. its nice, but its 500 quid too much
  10. although being critical, its oilcooled, and if it started out as a 400, its watercooled.........
  11. here be dragons.......
  12. harry something wasnt it? ran a bike breakers iirc, ive got pics of it somewhere.
  13. disconnect both ends of the cable and see how freely it slides in and out.
  14. lube or replace the cable, check that the lever pivots freely on the bar mount, then make sure that the lever on the clutch cover is at the right angle for correct operation.
  15. this is one i have in the shed, i dont know who actually did the work, the frame was the twin of the lucky7 katana bike built by one of the monthlys a couple of years back, seems well enough done, though as you see its not been built up and used yet.

    carb question

mine were jetted and setup for a 1127 when i got them, on spec i fitted them to my aircooled kat 1170 and whether by fluke, good luck or planning, they were pretty much perfect in every single part of the rev range, best fuelled engine i ever rode, it just worked with no steps, holes flat spots or roughness from idle to the redline. theyve lain in a cupboard in the shed since probably 2008!

    carb question

cool, cheers mate. i kinda figured that, but never knew it for sure, so youve confirmed it, and i can order a refurb kit for em. now to figure if its worth reinstating the blanked off power jet circuit or leave em like they are. never realised it was a 17d80, the 1 is pretty invisible. so ta!

    carb question

ok, ive just got the carbs that im going to use out of the shed and decided to give them a clean in the ultrasonic bath before rebuilding them. theres a bit of crud in there so theyre probably due a clean. now i bought these carbs for the kat with its aircooled motor and im planning to fit them to the oilcooled motor thats in there. as theyre apart and have been dry for a while, im not taking chances with the o rings and seals and plan to fit a new set. but before i order a set, can anyone give me a positive identification on them, this is the marking etched on the end body which im assuming is the identifying mark?? afaik theyre 38mm off a gsxr750. anyone identify which model they are off so i can order the correct refurb kit for them?
  20. 1135 and 1075 engines have different primary drive gearing too.
