  1. we didnt get them officially imported. but we got them all th same through the grey market. some of them are pretty lovely, theres a variant on the 2nd generation impulse 400 thats a dead ringer for a gs1000s, even the same colourschemes. bloody lovely little things.
  2. if its a chunky alloy swingarm for twin shock bikes, as well as thee inazuma, look at the second generation impulse 400, theyre pretty lush if you can find one.
  3. right next to picadilly ststion in mcr, if you visit, go on the bike cos theres nowhere to park a car.

    is this still happening?
  11. but is it correct that as the oil pump is spun by the clutch, that will also provide a lower flow rate of oil, which is why the 750 oil pump had different gears, so going down thee 750 primary drive route will require the 750 pump gears to just give the same flow rate as the stock 1100 gears? i think..... this is very confusing for my simple mind....
  12. if thats your 550, then why not sell it and buy an 1100 engine for the teapot? there arent many 550s about now, and thats the cleanest one ive seen in ages. you could fit its engine in the gsxf, but i cant help but wonder why? the twin choke carbs on the 550 are notoriously finnicky and temperamental, fitting it in the gsxf frame will almost certainly mean dispensing with an airbox, so you will then need to faff with them to try and get it to run right. go for it if you want the challenge, but in all honesty, all i can see is a nice aircooled bike and a poxy budget parts bin special. taking the engine from one and putting it in the other will just make it run worse, make less power and look terrible. go for it if you like the thought of throwing money out of the window on a windy day....
  13. pip higham once told me that gs750 motors run straight cut primary gears and they are good for about 190bhp. ive a crank with a straight primary gear but no clutch gear to match it if you need one chris.
  14. its ok, ive sorted it now. the switchgear that im fitting has been modified by whoever owned the bike it came off, they had removed the orange feed that works the pass light and soldered the white/red wire onto it, then thy had refitted the sleeving over the wires so the joint was up inside the sleeve, now ive found it, i can fix it right. hence it not matching any wiring diagram i could find. thanks mate. one more step forwards.........
  15. as you mght have seen, ive a kat running a gsxr1100m motor. the bike also has the gsxr loom and switchgear fitted. when it was built the wiring to the switchgear has been shortened to take account of the clip on bars, however im fitting a set of trail bike bars, so the cables arent long enough to reach the block on the loom. in my box of bits, i have a set of gsxr1100m switchgear which are almost identical to the ones on the bike, the only difference is that as well as the white multi plug on the end of the wiring, there ar two individual wires, one white with a red trace and one yellow. on the existing switchgear, theres just the yellow one. so, what does the white with red trace do? am i safe to seal it off? i dont want to cut the outer insulation off just yet, as its in good nick. any ideas?
  16. i always thought that the gs550 would sound fab with twin exhausts on it, small reverse cone megga exhausts, one each side, tucked in tight.
  17. remember though that an unrestricted straight through pipe might sound awesome, but it will completely bollox your carburation, so it will most likely be slower and make leess power. it will also be the aural equivalent of wearing an 'all coppers are bastards' tee shirt whenever you are out and about on it. and finally, you will be unlikely to get it through an mot. other than that, go ahead. you can buy turnouts with removable baffles in em, theyre plenty loud and the baffle takes the edge off the noise. that way you can pop the baffle in to take it for an mot and then put it on the shelf in the shed for the other 364 days of the year!
  18. i fucking loved it with the kat tank on it. on of the few oss bikes that ive loved since i first saw it.
  19. ask wraith to show you what he did with a gs shafty, single sided shafty h0nda swingarm and wheel, it was bloody smart, and the old 1000g might be a shafty, but at heart, its still a gs, and can be made to go well.
  20. 400 quid? tyres and track days. if you cant make speed on the straights, learn how to maintain it in the corners.
  21. turbo? depends how much you want to spend, but in terms of pounds spent per bhp its probably the best result.
  22. you can buy fuel stabiliser online, they sell it at machine mart and som diy stores too. it doesnt remove the vile ethanol content, but it does prevent it from evaporationg and thus spoiling the remainder. handy if it gets left standing for a couple of weeks.
