  1. 34psi? isnt that a bit excessive? every air fork ive ever had has only needed pretty low pressure, ive never put more than about 5-10 psi in a set, then again more modern stuff might be running high pressures, so what do i know.........
  2. if you want long off road type forks, why not fit long off road type forks? dr650, dr600, dr750, dr800, vstrom. etc etc...
  3. well, it looks like a newish piston, the marks on the bore show the limit of the pistons travel, well, the limit of the rings travel. if it had been freshly bored i would expect to not see the wear marks of the previous piston. having said that, its possible that it was built reusing the existing piston and bore. you'd have to look at the bill from the builder to see if he had been charged for rebore and pistons, or whether he just honed and rebuilt it. having said that, whats the compression like? im no expert, so dont take my word as gospel. but, if that were my engine, if i had it apart and was confronted by a bore like that, id be looking for the next oversize pistons. just my opinion. see, i told you that watercooled was an evil place......
  4. looks like someones run a hone over a worn barrel to try and remove score marks. the gouge might be from a piston ring securing pin coming adrift, or a broken ring perhaps. only way to find out i suppose is to take a look at the barrel and the piston, but thats looking like it needs more than a hone. iirc you can go upto 2.5mm oversize on them, but the limiting factor i suppose will be if you can get the pistons from anywhere.
  5. most likely, ive not seen his post here tho, i dont go in watercooled very often, dark, scary evil place that it is.....
  6. theres also a guy on the kat club forum who is fitting a gt750 kettle motor into a katana frame.....
  7. i think wraith is a bit of a font of knowlege on what wheels will go on the gs shaftys.
  8. i once went to look at a bike with a suede seat, it loked brill, really it did, but then i got close and could actually smell it. i didnt bother sitting on it cos i could feel the damp, ewwwwww.
  9. suede would be ok if you never went out in the rain...
  10. you gs boys have it good, bloody guillari seats for katanas seem to come in the opposite of henry fords reccomendation, any colour you like so long as its not black. ive seen red, white, silver, blue and multi coloured versions, but the one think ive not seen is a solid black, no poncy badges and flashes plain seat. ive got one, but its got white piping on it and red lettering, very very 1980's.
  11. if you fit a dyna 2000 ignition, it has an adjustable rev limiter, theres a dial on the side you turn to raise or lower it, i think max revs it will take is 12k rpm, would think that is enough.
  12. https://uk.images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A7x9UnwW9LVYYxQA_fl3Bwx.?p=gsx750s+wiring+diagram&fr=yhs-iry-fullyhosted_003&fr2=piv-web&hspart=iry&hsimp=yhs-fullyhosted_003&type=wbf_frmr_16_51#id=5&iurl=http%3A%2F%2Fi43.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe357%2Fukkatanapics%2Fkat%20pics%2F81ec65af.gif&action=click
  13. hey, it wasnt a criticism, you just posted about having the correct mirrors for it so i assumed you were aiming at a stock looking bike. shark fins were fitted to them all, the pic above was from a press shoot. it also apeared in some books of the era, the ones sold all had the fins, fitted.
  14. the kat 400 that had the gsxr1100m engine in it required some frame surgery to make it fit and even then the builder said it was super tight to get it in, he joked that if he had put another layer of paint on the frame then it wouldnt have fitted. having said that, having a 400 frame in the shed, the tubing is very flimsy, certainly not as thick a wall as the older gs series frames. , some of the joints arent welded tube to tube, they have castings with the tubes onto them and then welded round. and the 250 kat frame is even smaller than the 400 in case you were wondering.
  15. silver sz had a silver engine, sd model had the black engine. interestingly, (well, not actually interesting, it just shows that im a bit of an anorak) the uk katanas had the chromed round mirrors of the gs1000, because the rectangular mirrors from the katana werent wide enough to meet some strange uk construction and use regulations, for the same reason that the pop up katanas werent allowed to have the built in rear indicators each side of the tail light like the rest of the world got. instead, uk spec katanas had the indicators replaced by black plastic inserts and normal indicators on stalks.
  16. thus proving that the efe liners are thicker than 1075 liners then? if the efe can go to 1230 but the max for the 1075 is 1170 the efe liners must have more meat on them. theres a set on eblag that the seller is claiming are at 1340! and were apparently fitted to a kat engine, same seller has the bored out crankcases too.
  17. arent efe liners thicker than 1075 liners anyhow?
  18. not sure the sz had these. ive seen them on restored bikes and ive seen them on se models, but not original sz's.
  19. or, as they say in the club, to the single most asked question on kats, 13 bloody L... but thats a pretty worthless number really because its only suzukis own code. you will be better going to a paint supplier and getting them to scan and make up a batch to a piece of existing paintwork. there are a few existing automotive shades that are close matches, nissan has one and i think theres a bmw silver thats close.
  20. love the dr motors, always had a soft spot for big capacity single cylinder engines.
  21. here you go, note reversed stock forks, (i cant afford lockhheeds so im using brembos) and funky seat! from the era when magnum tache's ruled the earth....
  22. if you google yoshimura katana race bike, or wes cooley katana, you will see the yoshi race katana had its top shock mounts placed very far forward, i think the idea was to lift the back end and steepen the head angle making it tip into corners easier. the yoshi ones look pretty hastily done but theyre more or less where these are. the idea i had was to assemble the parts to build a katana that you would have built in the 1980s if you had the wedge, so, aftermarket components that were available at the time, so no modern wide 3 spokes, no turbos just the stuff you could buy back in the day. i remember buying mcn every week and flicking through the small ads at the back looking for what you could buy for your bike from the small ads. im sort of half way there now, ive a set of brembo calipers, a nice lockhart oil cooler, a metmachex swingarm and chain guard, 1170 wiseco kit and yoshi cams, vm32's micron fork brace, harris pipe, cma 3 spoke solid alloy wheels, and a few other nice little bits. but this is a long slow process that im not in any rush for. every once in a while i will add to the big box of bits ive collected. it might be my retirement gift to myself at this rate.
