Leaking gear/output shaft. How long to ignore it

Recommended Posts

Loses oil to a point. But not all the oil, cos the sprocket and gear shaft is higher than sump i suppose.  It smells hot and im not comfortable with it.  Can i ignore this or will it Get worse. Really dont wanna take the motor out again. Can i change a seal with it where it is?

easy fix.....remove sprocket and bushing......pop the old seal out...clean the area good......put a new one in . make sure you put it in straight .....gentle taps until fully seated . big socket works great if you don't have a seal driver .

Polish up the sprocket spacer while your at it, so the new seal doesn't get ripped to shreds first time you run the bike.

How about the gear selector fork seal? Can this be changed without a case split?

Yes, but you'll need to remove the selector shaft, which means the clutch and primary need to come off.
