Paulm Posted November 3 Posted November 3 2 hours ago, imago said: No doubt you could get the power, but it really wouldn't be the cheapest way to do it even using SH parts and doing all the work yourself. You need way more to add 200 hp to an oil boiler than you do 100 to a water cooled lump. All the work to add 100 hp to a water cooled engine is external, and that's just turbo and ecu. To add 200 to an oil boiler it's pistons, rods, head work, case studs/bolts, adapt it for injection with all the sensors etc, add on the ecu and wiring, along with additional cooling for the induction as well as the engine itself, fuel pump and lines, additional oil lines. Then you still have to add the turbo on top as per the water cooled. You can run 300bhp on carbs and without any head work and oil boilers are easy on the eye,as are aircooled motors, busa motor be fun though, just not as nice looking in my view. 2 Quote

Clive mentioned the injection, so I was doing a like for like comparison. I get that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but unless the eyes you're referring to belong to Marty Feldman you're really reaching with the look of an oil boiler. All that aside, and the "I built one in the past" or "I've got the stock to build one" I stand by my conviction on cost vs power when you're above the 250 hp mark. Put a shopping list together today, to build a 300 hp engine from scratch and you'll need more money to do it starting with an oil cooled engine than you will a water cooled engine. Quote

I had noticed the front engine mount points look like they would be to mount busa motor but when I looked again there about the same as Spikes one. Quote

I do have an old fighterd Thunderrace sat in the shed but I recon it's unlikely the tank will be any where near close as like the 1000k1 frame I have which I've toyed with the idea of fitting an oil boiler engine to these which would need the frames opening up. This frame was obviously built to accommodate gsx, gsxr or big Z. Ti's hunge across the frame spars like the Soondon. Edited November 7 by clivegto Quote
Dezza Posted November 8 Posted November 8 (edited) My old (previously leaky) Spondon ally tank may fit . It'll definitely be wide enough. It doesn't fit on my subframe anymore so I'm not going to be needing it. It's a fairly nice wall ornament and will never be more than that to me. My guess though is unless you're really lucky, you may have to bite-the-bullet and have a tank made to fit the frame. Edited November 8 by Dezza Quote

SiBag Posted November 8 Posted November 8 @clivegtoyou could try asking Zepp aka Jason Flather what may fit, im sure he has a JMC frame. Quote

imago Posted November 8 Posted November 8 The G is 19" at the widest part, 12" at the narrowest (rear) and 29" tip to tail. So it's not going to work unfortunately. I suppose you could go for a fuel cell and then make up or have made a fibreglass cover? Quote
