  1. Well, when I calmed down, I thought it may have been a split in the oil cooler, squirting oil onto the front of the head? No! It's funny you should mention the 'Mickey Mouse' ears. When I was putting the cam covetr back on, all the cover bolts finger tight, I dropped the 4 oil bolts into the cover. All of them entered the holes, bar 1. I removed the cam cover to find that particular 'ear' had moved slightly, blocking the hole. I re-positioned it, and all the bolts went into their respective holes. But, what you suggest is probably right. They're in the right way round, but may be damaged! I hope!
  2. A problem, I mean! B12 motor. Been tarting it up, paint wise. Set the tappets, cleaned carbs, changed oil & filters. Topped up with fresh oil, to the mark. When turning it over to prove oil pressure, I noticed an oil leak on the floor. Maybe half an egg cup. As I'd also had the sump off to clean the screen, I thought it must just be the gasket taking up. Also tightened oil cooler banjo's up too! Left over week end, no more leaks. Oil level was on lower mark, which seemed strange, as I'd only lost a small amount of oil. Topped it up to mark again. On starting the bike, the oil is pissing out! The cam cover, on the left side of the breather box was flooded with oil. It's not coming from the box joint, or the breather pipe to box connection. I noticed a slight pulsing of the oil beside #2 plug as if there was a gas leak under the plug? But it's tight! Cleaned all the oil off, and re-started motor. I was suspecting it was a split in the left side oil drain pipe. Nope! As I was looking at it to confirm, the oil appears to be coming from somewhere above the left side 'Pairs' blank in the front of the head ('99 motor). Quite hard to determine from exactly where, due to exhaust and oil cooler being in the way. And I mean pissing out! Now, the funny thing is, (as well) is the oil level on the clutch case is non-existent! Looks totally empty, yet I've only lost about a cupful! Any ideas? Over-pressurisation? Fucked pressure release valve in sump? Or just generally.....fucked???
  3. Well...not exactly, but not too much trouble! Give it a go!
  4. Straight in? 600 Bandit, with GS500 (may be GS550) sprocket carrier. A 5.5" wheel could be persuaded to fit, but that also may need the carrier reducing in width/change, and some of the stiffening web inside the arm taken away by approx. 50mm.
  5. Welcome to OSS, Dan. Good little bike you've got there. Tough as old boots! Plenty s/h motors to be had on that site, but beware you're not buying a 'pig in a poke'! Why not whip the head off yours, and see how bad the seizure is? Barrels might not be too bad, and may just be restorable. Or, replace the top end? Keeps the numbers right! Anyway, good luck whichever way you choose to go!
  6. Fuck me! Monumental! You can strip the bottom end of the motor, leaving the top end intact. Gaskets you'll need to replace are the o rings you'll come across when doing it. Also the sump. You will also need to remove the clutch, the oil pump gears behind it, and the plates that span the crankcase halves. They're tight! You'll need an impact! Take ALL the case bolts out, top and bottom, and before you try parting the cases, check again they're ALL out! DO NOT use that instant gasket shit on re-assembly! Use Hylomar or preferably Wellseal on the case halves. Lastly. Bit of advice. Try introducing yourself first instead of jumping straight in with your size nines
  7. Asked about Motoliner for mine. The guy said he'd need the whole bike for a week. He said he'd jig the frame, then straighten it. Apparently, the frame has a 'memory' and tries to return to pre-straightening state. So he has to do it twice. A bit of a long drawn out process! Added to the fact he's in Grantham, and I'm in the North East, so two trips. In the end, I didn't bother. It's a pity one of the dealers in the area haven't set one up. Food for thought?
  8. Yup! Agree with all above. Great choice with the colour scheme!
  9. Normally go to local bolt supplier, he would probably have charged around a fiver. I thought the extra from Screwfix might have come in handy, but 200 for less than half of what I paid? Excellent deal! Where from???
  10. 'Well done', on the first...'We'll see' for the last! I've stuck mine in the empty frame, to be on the safe side!
  11. Got 8 x 25 x 1.25 from Screwfix. 50 in the bag for £11.35! More than I need at the minute, but they'll not come in wrong!
  12. Yup! Apologies to Oilyspanner & Suzook! I hadn't tried the headers on, was looking for sizes before fitting. As it happens, 30mm is fine!
  13. Could be a 'problem solved' Jay. Have a word with the nice man!
  14. Powerscreen! Reasonable power...less hassle!
  15. Lengths have been posted on here a few times. Done a search. Nada!
  16. 25mm wouldn't even reach the hole!
  17. Anyone know the length of B12 exhaust flange bolts?
  18. If you think it's damp in the headlp shell causing the problem, give it all a good spray with WD40, and shove a bag of Silica Gel in there. Personally, it sounds like a short to me.

Anyone got a torque figure for Mk1 B12 oil cooler banjo to engine bolt? Not near my manual.
  21. Have a squint in Eblag. There's always some on there.
  22. Yup! Agree with Si. I've never had a two stroke...but I find them somehow fascinating! Keep up the good work
  23. As they say, 'Life doesn't come with an instruction manual...that's why we have Dads'!
  24. Always a good idea to have gasket material in the spares box. Cheap enough to buy. As good as, or better than OE gaskets, and a fraction of the over inflated price!
