In looking at a few articles on the net it appears a 2008 to 2011 R1 shock bolts into an early GSXR750 once the bottom mount has been thinned down a bit. Has anyone here tried this conversion? If so please comment on the results

@canamant

loads of people have used them they are a little longer than a std slabby one and need a bit of brute force to get in.. Ant I'm sure will tell you it works well enough and is a cheapish alternative

Fitted one in my old bike after shortening the lower mount a little and removing the lock nut....

Was like riding a different bike, great improvement over the standard shock

Because the damper is slightly longer the spring /bottom collar just touches the rocker/frame on full extension - which makes getting the bottom or top bolt in a bit of a faff.  However, when the bike is on its wheels the shock moves away from the frame on the suspension arc so it all frees up.  Good enough for 107mph to Ramsey Hairpin on a 750 with a bloater onboard, and 99mph to the finish.

Is there scope to remove some material from contact area to stop this?

Yes.  I had to clearance a bit more of the rocker mount to get more sag too as the bike was bet squirrely on the brakes.

This has been very informative. I've got a 2007/2008 on order. Will modify based on your moments and post pictures of same in my project file for the bike. Thanks all!
