Rake Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Thanks all - useful info. The RAL7021 looks promising. Looks like its best to pull the mototr - fully tear it down and get it vapour blasted depending on the cost Quote
bluedog59 Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 (edited) If you're going to pull it apart you can add the price of new gasket set to the cost at the minimum. Then add, " I'd better change that seal etc etc while I'm in here" and the cost just keeps going up. Do you need to pull it apart other than for painting ? It will take a lot less manhours to clean the engine well enough to get a very good finish to than strip it, cart all the bits round to get them blasted, paint it and rebuild it. Dezza Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 (edited) I agree with BD: there's going to have to be a really good reason to take the top end off and an even better reason to split the crankcases. 'Dodgy paint finish' is not IMHO a good enough reason for either. Edited February 24, 2021 by Dezza 1 Quote
clivegto Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Got my last engine vapour blasted then got Brian McCall of centurion motorcycle projects to paint it with his special paint, it's the same stuff they use on helicopter engines. 4 Quote
TonyGee Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 i did my engine in the frame as i couldn't get it out on me own !!! 5 Quote
Rake Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Interesting - there is little or no reason other than cosmetics to pull it appart. Its quite oxidised in places and I was under the impression that to clean it or vapour blast it I would need to strip it down ? I'll get some close ups and see what you think Quote

Even with one sitting on the bench I find that it's impossible to clean every nook and cranny without removing the starter and generator and then spending two weeks sanding cleaning sanding cleaning (repeat a zillion times) with various tools/chemicals before getting round to my first can shake. Haha Dezza, honestly I’m not that fussy, it looks good enough for me for now. May even get round to doing it properly one day if I ever get the engine out. By the way, did you ever fish out that RGV solo seat you kept tripping over, I may be able to make something of it for the cost of postage Quote

Anyway, I was mistaken and it wasn't an RGV seat after all. It looks like some sort of Krapaskai seat, zxr maybe. So sorry for the false alarm. Quote

Roger P. Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Gurls blouse Graphite Gray Metallic is a perfect match for a MkII B12 motor. I had painted parts mounted next to OEM Suzuki and you couldn't see any difference. Quote
