ZenViking Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Hello I've been reading through the forum hunting for some information on which Front end to swap on to my 88" GSX 1135. Does anyone in here have any recommendations? I've been looking at Inverted cartridge forks on the GSXR but again which mod will fit the best and make for the best swap? Thnx in advance Quote
Jellyfinger Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Gsxr1100 yokes and forks will go straight in. The lock stops are different. The 750 will also go in but the forks are shorter. 1 Quote
ZenViking Posted July 2, 2017 Author Posted July 2, 2017 Thanks, I'm trying to gather as much info before winter is coming and the project build starts. Is this any year of GSXR? I was looking at something new like the K1 front suspension. Quote
Sheep Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 K1 in mine but if I had any advice it would be stiffer springs as I find mine a little on the soft side....Oh and better brake pads lol. Quote
no class Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 The gsxr 1100 stuff has been done to death..... obsolete and heavy imo..... the newer gsxr stuff with radial style brakes can be made to fit without too much trouble . I do believe the efe frames are wide enough to fit a 6" wheel ..... anghooo anything can made to fit with a little ingenuity ! Quote
CockneyRick Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Down side to K series as opposed to Slingy 11, is they are much shorter. Got K's in my Yoshi GS which keeps it very low, but the efe has the longest forks Suzuki made & suit the efe much better. yes they are heavier, but it's a brute of a bikew that can handle a few extra pounds, & just eat less pies 9 Quote

no class Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Yeah I got that Rick .....but if you're going to swap out that efe pogo stick front end for "inverted".....that usually comes with a wheel swap ..... swinger and wider rear wheel usualy follow ..... Quote
CockneyRick Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Pogo stick? i've used 3 sets of these forks over the years & oil change sorts any issues. But if not, re-valve &/or stiffer springs easily improves what i consider a decent fork for it's age Quote
no class Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 .....well....37mm tube diameter and notably some of the longest forks on any bike ....just shy from being a chopper.....throw a 16 " wheel on that stopped by single opposed piston calipers and we have a recipe for a top notch front end . not here to but heads ....just aint buying what your selling . CockneyRick Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Not trying to convince you, @ZenViking is the one my advice is for! And chances are, he won't find any as they're rare as rocking horse shit! Quote
homer Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 K series forks needs mucho stiffer springs. I had k4 forks (softest springs in kilo k series). It was very soft to ride. Like riding in porridge. 2 Quote
Rene EFE Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 750L Slingy in mine, totally original. Copes very well with the heavy bike (suprisingly) 1 Quote
CockneyRick Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 So there you have it, 1100L/M best option, then 750L after that. As said K series may look better but overall they fail on such a heavy brute of a bike Quote
Jonboy Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Could always do something different, dont limit yourself to Suzuki. Mr7/11(The Terrible ThunderLizard !!!! ) documented his slabby evolution on OSS and used H***a front and rear. The GSish uses VFRfront and rear ends to name two variants. There is a lot of choice components out there if you look Quote
Rene EFE Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 to be fair; to make ANY frontend fit anything else will at most involve a stem- and bearingswap. Quote
baldrick Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 the forks off the 1100 WP/ WR are longer, as the clip ons were mounted above the top yoke. these are the ones I would go for ive a set on my gsxr katana, and they are longer than the K series forks (750) on my other kat Quote
homer Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Rwu for the win. Have to say that usd forks are not my thing anymore. For the gsxr those are ok but gsx looks way better with rwu sticks. Zx9r forks are quite nice for these old aircooled ones. Quote

The water cooled were the longest I think & the heaviest of the GSXRs, so that might help with a big heavy EFE. I put some 1100M's on a GSX 1100 & it was decking out very early, had to have them extended by 2 inch to sort it out. I've got some W usds on my Slabby & they work a treat, great tyre choice, great brakes & no more diving. PS. nice bike Rick. Quote
CockneyRick Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 M/N are 770mm too And never had a problem with mine on the Efe! Mebbe your springs/oil was fooked? Quote
Captain Chaos Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 750L front end in mine. Yes it's a bit lower now but no big deal. It also has an oilcooled lump which is a good bit lighter. But then again I'm riding it and I'm a good bit heavier. 2 Quote
nlovien Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 I like to see - and use RWU forks on period builds, don't really get the fascination with USD forks, forsure I know the arguments, so do all the classic racers but TBH, in my real world i'm dam't if I can find any benifit from fitting USD forks - getting the ride height / spring and damping right on any fork of choice over say 38mm diameter seems to work fine for me. Had a simliar discussion on another forum - ain't it quirky funny how folks are partisan about fitting alternative bits to bikes - suzuki = suzuki, Gurls blouse = Gurls blouse etc.., broaden your approach to the part versus the assembler (mind most of these bits are probably built by the same supplier ) and you open the door to a great range of very good forks etc.. - example is CB1000FS = nice lomg set of 41mm at 815mm, VFR750L 41mm at 790mm, thunderace and fireblade (best rwu i've used) at 45mm - Zx900r 46mm and long and cheap as fook - lots of stuff out there once you open the box Quote
Captain Chaos Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 I chose for the 750L front end because I had it gathering dust in a corner of the garage. Other option was 46mm ZX6R RWU front end but that has no speedo drive. And is for sale now by the way. Quote
CockneyRick Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 I chose 11L forks cos i've used em loads over years & suit my needs. Plus on the "Brute" they look like they belong Quote
