Hey guys been a few with work but back to work on bike. Rebuilt carbs and filled tank put in storage for a week and got back out to work on and noticed fuel leaking out of carb so I knew I left prime on. Engine filled up with fuel also. How should I clean it out? Thanks for any help

don't try and start it... drain and flush the engine oil.. those petcocks with the prime can be a disaster if left on... easy to forget to return it to run... your not the first and won't be the last it happens to

I drained it. When you say flush should I just fill up with oil again and then drain that and trash it or just drain and refill. is there something in particular I should flush it with. Thanks

Okay gotcha so with diesel install drain plug fill in required amount (same as oil amount) then drain? or just leave the drain plug off and flush it right through? just making sure. Appreciate the quick response

I think what I will do is leave off drain plug and filler cap and oil filter for a few days then fill it up with new oil and let it run until it's warm then change it again with another new oil & filter...overkill but I will feel better. Thanks for the help guys

I did this once and just drained the gas/oil out, then filled it with new oil.  I never bothered flushing it out.....  The bike ran fine.  It has 40K on it, does not smoke, and runs like a bear. I saw the engine temperature commuting to work, then realized I forgot to turn the "PRI" offf.  I pulled over to a gas station, and the guy let me change the oil right there.  I didn't have time to do any flushing, but I will say that the bike ran really well.  I think that gas may have cleaned out some galleys in that engine, wouldn't do it on purpose.   In any event, don't think that the flushing is really necessary if it is allowed to drain every drop out.  I could be horribly wrong, and your bike may blow up with you on top of it, or you may just have cleaned out the inside of the cases.  :)

If you are a bit fussy…..

Theres normally 3 figures for an engines oil capacity.

# Oil change.

# Oil and filter change.

# Dry build.

Some of my Suzuki’s hold considerably more on a dry build than an oil and filter change, obviously a normal oil change leave the oil cooler full of old oil, but even on bikes without a cooler there’s still a noticeable amount left in the head and around the motor.

Im not obsessive with oil changes, but if it’s something that had an issue or questionable, I have been known to do a couple of changes in a hope of flushing the system beyond what a regular engine flush will achieve.

There ist a sight glass....Just fill the engine with oil, keep bike vertical and look at the oil level...start engine, let it run a few mins, cool down, and then adjust oil level again - easy as that.
