DaveTheBandit Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Hi! I need to change my front wheel on my gsf1200 2002. I had nice chrome wheels but now changing the wheels for new ones is the same price as the value of the bike. I looked into getting them fixed but it’s pretty bad and there’s a chance they won’t be able to fix it. I bumped into someone who had a bandit 10years ago and told me that the gsxr wheels were compatible but could not tell me which model for sure. They both are 17” and 3.5” width. The newbie that I am is tempted to buy it since it is more readily available than the bandit ones and cheaper but I want to make sure I won’t have any issues fitting the disk, spacers or any other parts I’m trying to remember from the diagram. any tips? Gixer1460 Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I can't actually see whats wrong with them! They are pretty custom but if its a rim repair a good wheel fixer should be able to do it ? Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 all slingshot 750 and 1100, front wheels from 89 onwards have the same hub and spindle size as the bandit, last year of 750 was 95 pre SRAD, 1100 contiunued until 97 I think?? they will all fit the bandit just spokes are differant Quote
wraith Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Don't you have to swap the discs or is that for front forks etc? Can't see much wrong with that wheel that a wheel repair place would not be able to fix easy, seen much worse Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 B12 discs are 2 mm less offset than slingy ones. The forks in the picture are slingy ones, so the disce will be fine with that set up and B12 or slingy wheel 1 Quote
DaveTheBandit Posted July 25, 2023 Author Posted July 25, 2023 Thank you so much for all the info! I guess I’ll try the wheel repair route then. I really like my wheels! Quote
DaveTheBandit Posted July 25, 2023 Author Posted July 25, 2023 It’s the garage that told me that the wobbly feeling I had wasn’t the tire that was done and deformed but the rim that was bent. There’s some intense dent we can’t really see that well in the picture I guess but some are like 20-30mm out… my hesitation was that the only shop that seem to do that less than 3 hours away said because of the chrome it might ruined the wheel. Safra Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 What chrome? that looks like polished aluminum with a clear coat over it to protect it Quote

Chromed aluminium is unusual as it doesn't take to electro plating process very well hence why it's anodised more often which is a dye process. 1 Quote
TonyGee Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 the spokes look really thin for ally !! could the wheel be steel ? a magnet will tell you. Quote
Dezza Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Are there any maker's marks on the wheel? There may be something on the inside on the rim only visible when the tyre is removed. If you can find out what make wheel it is then you can find out about it's construction, what's wrong with it and how to go about getting it fixed Quote
DaveTheBandit Posted July 26, 2023 Author Posted July 26, 2023 Thank you all for all the valuable insights. The wheel is bent according to the mechanic and the disk is making a noise while riding. That last visit to the shop made me want to do more myself. If the wheel is bent to the point it causes issue with the brakes. I would have expected them to call me before putting the tire on… now I have to remove the wheels, disks and tire and bring it to the rim fixing shop… Quote
Safra Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Could we have a better side pic of the bike those could be RC Components wheels here is a archive to their website in 2002 if I'm correct those are spun aluminum wheels hence why they're hollow in the centre of each spoke https://web.archive.org/web/20020209210732/http://rccomponents.com/sportbike/sport.html Quote
Safra Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) They look like their SEABRING wheels Edited July 30, 2023 by Safra 1 Quote
Qwik Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 (edited) Get the front end of the bike up on a stand. And spin the wheel yourself. Take a wooden ruler, lay it against the fork. And put it close to the rim. If there’s run out/bend in the rim you will see it. There are shops where you can ship your rim and they can straighten them. The disc making noise could be just a bent disc. Edited August 6, 2023 by Qwik Quote
DaveTheBandit Posted August 17, 2023 Author Posted August 17, 2023 Thanks for all your inputs! Super helpful! I finally found 2 places that fix wheels around me(Google wasn’t helpful strangely, but people were) one is 3 times the price of the other. I’m not sure why though… Quote
Rijko Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Are you sure the wheel is bent ? usually if the rim is bent, the discs don't rub. Maybe the issue is in your brake calipers (piston stuck), or have a bent brake disc ? Bent disc is way more common, especially after braking hard and keeping the brakes engaged at standstill while hot ... Quote
JoeHugin Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 When on topic, how much weight difference is there really from GSXR wheels to Bandit wheels? Quote
