My GSXR1100K Slingshot

Hi there folks,

Joined the group a while ago and been surfing/lurking for info and inspiration since, however please accept my apologies for not introducing my ride a little sooner. It’s a lovely old 89 model GSXR 1100 K with a few subtle modifications in a Streetfighter Stylee

Owned since 1999 when i bought her as a completely standard 10 year old with the sole intention of going down the route of the Streetfighter look, reminiscent of the old air cooled GSX / CB / Z models i was brought up on, but with less scary handling

“If only you had kept her standard what with todays prices!!” I hear you scream, and yes isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing, but i do enjoy riding about 3000 miles a year and love the way she looks, so hey ho

My current lockdown project has been fitting a 750K1 swingarm using the 1100k wheel, suspension linkage and an Ohlins i fitted some time ago, along with numerous spacers and 125mm dog bones  just to get things bolted up using the same ride height. I think the rear wheel is lined up about right as the 750K swingarm is 20mm wider than the 1100K one, so went for 10mm spacer either side?

As your probably guessing from the angle of the dog bones, the back end is WAY too firm. The plan is to ride out soon and see what its like and try a few suspension adjustments on the road. Ive listened to some great feedback from MeanBean who i think used a softer spring? And DanM who offers an Adapter plate/link that would require the 750K1 linkage along with new dogbones

So just thought I’d put it out there to show you my ride, and ask how any of you have managed to get around this conundrum

Thanks

Hi. Even those that initially look standard on closer inspection aren't. Standard is for show ponies or for those who enjoy exploring the inside of hedges ;)

Things have moved on a little since my last post when I reported the back end to be way too firm.
I managed a short ride out and as expected it was a nightmare☠️

Having followed a lot of other info on this subject, I decided to contact DanM54 and get one of his adaptor plates ordered along with a K1 knuckle

Once arrived and bolted up the rear shock actually moves and with a little fine tuning I’m confident it will be fine, the dogbones even look nearer to the perpendicular too, the ones I’m using in the pics are 125mm and increase the ride height about 25mm, so I’m probably going for either an adjustable set or 130-135mm should put the height back to standard

The only remaining headache is the chain rubs against the edge of the vertical centre brace of the swingarm!! Now as I’m running the standard 1100k rear wheel, I took a lot of time spacing it correctly for wheel and sprocket alignment, and I’m aware the 750k1 sprocket is a further 10mm from wheel centre

So I was wondering if any of you can advise me as to the best way around the chain clearance issue, 520 chain and sprockets, space both sprockets out a few mm, grind the weld off the swingarm, or fit a K1 wheel and space out the front sprocket???
