Nickel Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 (edited) Time to try new things out. Had the luck to get my fingers on parts of an old Sims and Rohm Supercharger kit. It's only the charger with intakte and carb adapter. Special engine case for starter clutch is missing. So I have to build one for my own. First idea was to put it into a slabby frame, but that wouldn't be possible without modifying the upper frame rails. So I have to go the slingshot way. Charger is in very good condition. Was imported from USA years ago. Owners plan was to put it on a EGLI Kwaksaki, but never done it, because lots of nodifications required. So he sold it. To me! First things to do: modification of starter clutch case and sourcing out the missing parts to drive the charger. Don't want to use a V-belt, want to use a toothed belt. Have to do some search for the ratio of the toothed belt discs. Not much Informations available. More coming soon. Edited September 17, 2019 by Nickel 8 Quote
Gixer1460 Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Those poly-vee belts do transfer quite a bit of power - pretty much universally used on modern cars with high load alternators, power steering pumps and air-con compressors, so why make extra work for yourself? Quote
vizman Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Because glimmer belts look the titties and v belts look like they only should be powering alternators and pto farm equipment even if they were good enough for the Paxton on my 67 fastback. mr dunloopie at FBM just had a set of toothed pulleys made, give him a call. Belt also f...d and has the same age as the charger. Also need a new one. So work and parts needed are the same. 35 minutes ago, vizman said: mr dunloopie at FBM just had a set of toothed pulleys made, give him a call. Thanks for the hint, will throw him a mail. Quote

Slabby11 Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 I think Pasis on the old forum had this setup for a while, there may still be picture around for comparison. Quote

Duckndive Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 this is an original set up ratio wise "underdriven" 1 Quote
Duckndive Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 this was a later Gilmer belt set up that the owner had "overdriven" the blower Many moons ago at a Florida bike night I was introduced to a guy who worked in the aircraft industry "who I was told was the guru" on these short lived kits but F##ded if I can remember his name Quote

Nickel Posted September 18, 2019 Author Posted September 18, 2019 It's difficult to find any further information about these kits or supercharging in general. Quote

Nickel Posted September 19, 2019 Author Posted September 19, 2019 Only additional thing that came with the kit, was this bolt. Matches the crank. 1 Quote

clivegto Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Cool, that looks like it will be strong as well as line itself up Quote
gsx Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 TTS or who ever ? May have got it wrong do kits for more modern stuff , is this a viable option? Quote
Nickel Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 Spent some time machining the belt drive. Tried to use a belt with standard length, but won't fit. Either I have to order a special shorter belt or using a bigger pulley on crank. 3 Quote
