Leblowski Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Dunno if anyone has done this one here before but maybe usefull to someone Started today with an engineswap, a K4 thou is transplanted into a 96 srad 750. Front end will be mounted too. I started out with a complete Srad 750 and a Complete damaged K4 Thou engine with loom exhaust etc etc all what’s needed to get it running. So first butchered the thou and then the Srad took out everything wich i didn’t need anymore. Welded the bottom of the thou tank into the Srad tank as i need the thou fuelpump for EFI. Getting the thou engine into the Srad is quite easy you need to take of 6mm of the lower engine mounts on both sides wich i did using an anglegrinder and a Dremel as usual. The upper engine mounts need to be taken away to make room. Engine is now in place chainline is spot on. Next is creating new enginemounts for the upper and cilinderhead mounts. Bought some steel today so will start tomorrow on that. Will keep you updated on progress. 12 Quote
Leblowski Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 Today i made all the enginemounts out of 4mm steel, took more time then i thought as usual. The engine sits spot on exhaust line is perfect Will spray them Silver to hide them a bit. Happy with the results till now Next stop is bolting radiator loom airbox tb’s in place 7 Quote
TLRS Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 (edited) Nice build! Will it be another trackbike? Started today with an engineswap, a K4 thou is transplanted into a 96 srad 750. Front end will be mounted too. Do you want rid of the Srad forks? Edited April 8, 2019 by TLRS I'm a tnuc Quote

Leblowski Posted April 11, 2019 Author Posted April 11, 2019 Next whas creating brackets for the cooler and fitting the Miv muffler to the gsxr 1000 Fabrication is almost done now, tomorrow elektrolyses on the tank is done too. Next is mating the gsxr 1000 loom to the srad and finding a nice place for ecu, etc etc 4 Quote
Leblowski Posted April 24, 2019 Author Posted April 24, 2019 Wasn’t allowed to work on the bike because of a fracture in my elbow for a week to see how it healed. So all good now and back to work. Decided to hacksaw the thou airbox to make it fit wich worked the intakes are under a different angle so chopped them off and glued some foam to the frame for final fitment. Also made a new bracket to mount to the frame. Now working on getting the thou loom into the frame wich works pretty good i can use the space where the cdi was for the ecu starterrelais etc only have to find a new place for the rectifier. I have some plugs left on the loom wich i really don’t have a clue where there from so have to figure that out also. So have to mount everything next is getting the k4 front end in. 1 Quote
Leblowski Posted April 25, 2019 Author Posted April 25, 2019 (edited) Front end sorted thanks Suzuki ! 1 on 1 swap also purchased some R6 calipers. Need to measure if the srad discs fit the k4 wheel as they are bigger wich i like. Also found out the plugs i couldnt work out are for the exhaust servo motor wich i don’t use so sorted Edited April 26, 2019 by Leblowski 2 Quote
Leblowski Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 Got my Battery so checked systems all seems fine, now fill er up with oil gas and liquid then an attempt to fire her up. In the mean time i trimmed the fairing to suit. A bit of hacksawing here and there but nothing big need to create new lower mount on the engine thats it. It al fit’s nice and tight. Found out the srad 320 discs fit the k4 wheel srad wheel doesn’t it’s approx 1 cm wider so i will stick with the k4 wheel Tried to fit the k4 rear also, it fits like a glove all bushes spacing etc is excactly the same however the chain is not alligned and can’t mill anything of the wheelcarrier as there’s no meat so the srad wheel will stay. 7 Quote

Many later gsxr's have 128mm hub so that shouldn't be the issue? Srad fork spacing is 214mm while later gsxr's have 207mm. Either way you probably need either different yokes or space the discs out. Or fit Brembo sbk discs with the appropriate offset. Quote
Leblowski Posted May 2, 2019 Author Posted May 2, 2019 Rearsets arrived today as always good quality for a good price, the mastercilinder needed some tweaking to get it all alligned proper. The rearcaliper was shot but i had a k2 600 caliper if i am correct wich bolted right on. Coming weekend will be a bit trilling, first start up so will know if the engine seller wasn’t lying as i never heard the engine running 5 Quote
Leblowski Posted May 16, 2019 Author Posted May 16, 2019 Got the bike out yesterday and tried to start it wich it did, for about 3 seconds. After some googling i found out these bikes have a tip over sensor wich wasn’t mounted right. So got that sorted and presto instant fire up and idling the engine revs nice but was a tad smokey could be the oil i pored into the cilinders or the two stroke oil i used after elektrolysis. Started the bike up end of the day again and smoke was about 80% less so i think i am fine. Need to sort the oilleaks, frontbrakes, chain and suspension needs setting up. So almost there 5 Quote
Swiss Toni Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 @LeblowskiWell done, mate! Interesting 'mix & match' project. Took no time at all. Impressive! Quote
snoorder Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Nice, you make this sound like an easy build mate Quote

Leblowski Posted May 26, 2019 Author Posted May 26, 2019 Front end done made some brackets for the srad fender to suit. Also welded a new bracket on the front end wich was broken very happy welding went easy. Next is putting some slicks on and waiting for some brakelines from @gsxr884/ cp racetec so front end will be finished besides suspension Been at hyperpro last week they will do some upgrades on the rearshock front end will get some skf green seals for less friction wich i will install myself to keep the cost down. I need to change gearing on the bike so i will convert it to a 520 chain and sprockets also. The completion of this project is in sight ! 3 Quote

Leblowski Posted May 30, 2019 Author Posted May 30, 2019 (edited) Always did my front end overhauls my self but did it with homemade tool wich where put together in the time i couldnt weld myself So it was time to create a proper one two hour job to create this tool to compress the forks so top can be taken of. Forkoverhaul next will be installing some skf green forkseals wich will give less friction and will last langer as some may say . Edited May 30, 2019 by Leblowski 3 Quote
Guest Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 (edited) Excellent build and bike looks factory made so proper sleeper. Give them 1000 riding boys a surprise. Hope theres a vid once is all finished I remember Years ago a Swedish blokes bike in PB or Streetfighter mag doing similar engine swap to a 600 Srad. He actually cut engine mounts off 1000 frame and welded in place on 600. He said hardest part was welding the radial brake mounts onto standard SRAD 600 forks. getting them aligned etc. Wish I still had the mag Edited June 2, 2019 by GS1000 78 Quote

Welding radial brake mounts on a srad 600 fork ! I would like to see some pictures Quote
