  1. Saved up some dosh and decided to send my brakes off for a full refurb, bought an ultrasonic cleaner and stripped and rebuilt the carbs
  2. Brakes and carbs off first as these were the worst of the bike
  3. Then got an offer of an original solo seat and brand new exhaust so lost the plot and bought them on my plastic, fitted them straight away just to see how they looked and sounded before carrying on with the strip down.
  4. I gave up with the original list quite quickly it was too depressing, it would have turned into a £20,000 bike but I didn't have much budget other than about £50 a month so the best thing was to take some action. Took the bike off the road and started to dismantle bit by bit then boxed and labelled the parts I was keeping or refurbing. Anything destined for the bin was put on the need to get it list. This list could then be decided whether 2nd hand or new was the order of the day.
  5. So I started to make a list it just got bigger and bigger...ooer missus A) Need to have B) Nice to have Then the next set of questions Can I refurb it Can I get it 2nd hand Does it need to be new and genuine Suzuki, plus what's it going to pissing cost???
  6. Can't be too big an issue as mine has had a slingy 1100 swingarm fitted to it at some point in the past
  7. I'm away with work until Friday but can take some pics if it helps
  8. Not to sure on the differences and also think it's the bottom engine mount I have a 750 frame with 1100 motor in it fits fine but without bottom mount bolted up, although would prefer it to be but doesn't appear to be an issue. I bought it like this and haven't investigated further yet.
  9. Over the first weeks thought I could just fix and clean a few bits and ride it during the summer, quickly found issues in these categories 1) Things that were going to kill me-knackered suspension, non working brakes and circa 2004 tyres..... 2) Things that wouldn't kill me but would eventually fall off then try to kill me- everything made of rubber including original brake lines 3) Things that were rotten looking and could be made to look better with some TLC and a bit of paint 4) The unknown things that only appear every time I go for a blast
  10. When I bought it it still had the same hi sports on as featured in the pics,I negotiated a fair price and foolishly decided to ride home from London to Nottingham, with the cracked tyres It wouldn't tick over, carbs crapped up and the brakes barely worked but made it home, god bless oil cooled motors.
  11. It looked pretty original and had full history from previous owners although had spent most of its life in storage apart from being featured in a classic bikes in 2005
  12. Bike sold to fund house mortgage then fast forward nearly 30 years with the need for another...picked this up before the slabby gold rush started back in 2014
  13. So why did I need one...we all have our stories wanted one as a kid etc, etc. I was lucky enough to be old enough to buy one 2nd hand but not run in back in 1987.Picked up from Cusworths on a sunny day and even stopped by the feds on the way back to Nottingham because they wanted to look at it. I bought it to race but never got that far as after 5 weeks an old bloke pulled out in front of me in the wet and I went over his car,the bike didn't and ended up going through a fence then landed head first in a pond now drowning. Fast forward a year and bike repaired on the cheap after insurance payout....steering head was now oval ish but a st damper cured it until once again an old guy with a caravan pulled in front of me on the old M1j 24 island I was heading towards north bound but never made it and hit him at least doing 70 the bike sparked round the island and went down the A453 and I flew through the air behind it. Cuts and bruises only thanks to my sambas and paddock jacket jeans combo pic of the bike after 2nd repair and new frame with new gear thanks to compo pay out
  14. Having restored a slabbie recently I am ready to do some summer TLC on it but thought I could share my story and maybe inspire or assist with info for the countless others out there doing the same.
  15. My slabbie is in bits at the moment so can't take any measurements here is a pic of the lhs and gear linkage in relation to footrest, maybe someone else can give better help but this will at least give you an idea for now.
  16. New oil and filter today had to blow torch the sump plug due to it being painted over with pj1,a bit of persuasion and it was out. Gave the tank a wee polish while the sun was out
  17. More info on the seat, the cover and foam was done by http://www.autoretrim.co.uk/ they've been featured on wheeler dealers. The seat base was modded by the guy I bought it off, pics to follow.
  18. As my mate @Paulm would say the future planned turbo upgrade will cure the exhaust problem once and for all
  19. Thanks, i'm glad I haven't got any feelings or you might make me cry...yes the colour is a matter of choice so not always going to be everybody's taste. The exhaust has already decked out twice on a couple of local non EU roundabouts. It will remain for now until I find something more suitable than a drag pipe, its ok on left handers just have to sit it up on rights but it does make a nice noise when it decks out.......oh and I've burnt my pissing leg on it as well, had to polish my own skin off it at the weekend
  20. Thanks Swiss, I was thinking of changing the colour scheme but it's grown on me. Will post some pics of the seat when I'm home on Friday it was already done when I bought it not sure who did it but will ask the guy I bought it off to see who did it for him and let you know.
  21. Just read my last update to this thread and thought I should shamefully post little progress since Jan.....state usual excuses work, grandkids blah blah blah. The plans for Easter is rather than just eat chocolate I have to get my slabbie roadworthy again as it's not run since OSS gathering at Donington..carb issues and knackered chain. This will allow the freeing up of my ABBA stand to start working on the RGV which is currently lying on a piece of old carpet on the floor. I still need to buy some new rad hoses, strip and rebuild the carbs, clean the loom and connections and save up for a replacement rear shock Once on the stand I will replace swingarm and steering bearings,I already have these. I can then get it back on it's wheels with refreshed forks and give it a final clean before refitting the refreshed motor. Plan is to have it together for early September then sorn it again while I get it running and dial in the zeeltronic and new power valves and a bit of road testing on a closed road nearby I will post some pics as I go just to keep it interesting for the 2 smoke fans out there. before and after pics of the engine which is currently protected under an old beach towel in the shed
