  1. The 750 boiler engine I saw last week was definitely cable
  2. So you have the dexterity of a gynocologist with 30 years experience and fingers like ET?(To enable the valve shims to be changed on a 4-valve head W/C engine).
  3. Which pipe options have you got already/have acccess to? Maybe borrow some different options and see how they compare. Would be interesting for anyone to do if dyno access was available. If so, I have a Cobra 4-2-1 system available
  4. Other than that no difference then, i.e. weight due to 1052 cover being made of a different material rather than having fewer bits to it?
  5. Does an 1100 slabside cam cover fit on a Blandit 1200 head and work properly? They look wildly different but I was informed that the SS part is magnesium although this could easily be BS. I am shit with computers. How do I find Frankenstein's pages?
  6. That is interesting. The one I have is also Cobra but is 4-2-1. I understand the benefits but it makes the system really long, with the positioning of the end of the silencer can up at the back of the bike well past the rear wheel spindle
  7. Really? I thought that went 750 for four cylinders in 1983, when Waine Rainey won.
  8. Is there a general difference in the effects of having 4-2-1 headers compared with 4-1 headers? In other words, what is the advantage of having 4-2-1 given that this configuration is clearly more costly in time and materials to fabricate? I ask as I have a system for an oil cooled motor that has 4-2-1 headers, and these make the system really long and aesthetically unappealing, i.e. ugly.
  9. Check up on the MOT history via the DVLA, which will show where the bike has been tested. You can apply for an owner history using form v888 but unless you are the registered keeper of the vehicle you have to have a very good reason for this, e.g. you were involved in an accident with said vehicle. They won't give you the address of the vehicle's keeper if you simply want to buy the vehicle.
  10. From the prices I have seen, 5 grands worth of Yoshi stuff, even in 1986, would get you an exhaust pipe and a set of wheels and not much else...
  11. Yep, U = 1000-1100; R = 700-750 or something like that. Whatever the range for each number, 750 = R; 1100 = U. Motors bigger than 1100 like 1100 slingshots, Blandit 1200s and EFEs and the letter is V.
  12. What class would an 1100 have been raced in during 1986? Assuming the 1986 bike was being raced from the off rather than being converted at a later date.
  13. Even if the riveted-on VIN plate is missing, the frame number should also be stamped onto the side of the headstock.
  14. This bike looks familiar. Was it featured in Performance Bikes many moons ago? If it's the bike I am thinking about something very similar was for sale on Eblag a year or so ago. It stands out to me because it has WP forks and Spondon discs.
  15. Most things do I'll get me coat.....
  16. OK, many thanks to all. I have the inlet rubbers for both so I will probably try first the carbs I have
  17. I have a 1200 Blandit motor to go in my Spondon frame as the original motor, which is made up of slabby 750 and 1100 bits, needs a rebuild. The bike came with some 1100 slabside carbs that are in good condition so I just need to know if using them will bugger up the running of the Blandit motor. I will be getting other carbs eventually but my priorities are with the cycle parts. If I need different carbs sooner rather than later then I can keep an eye out for a set otherwise they can wait a while
  18. Will the carbs from an 1100 slabside work OK on a 1200 Blandit engine? What is the likely outcome of doing this? Cheers in advance

Anything in non-SI units sucks, except maybe tyres. The diameters are in imperial but the widths are in metric on the SAME tyre but wierdly this does not cause confusion
  20. Sounds small - the exhaust bolts on my EFE head are 8 x 1.25 and I would have assumed the ES was the same. I use stainless with a bit of copperslip on the threads and all still original.
  21. What is immediately obvious is the lack of cars, lorries and potholes in 1992 compared with nowadays - even a clapped-out CZ125 would be fun to ride along some of them roads
  22. I think the speedo cable on it snapped about 50,000 miles before it was laid up with the carbs full of fuel 10 years before he tried to start it. This might explain why it's only running on 2 cylinders
  23. I think he means he wants to dump the airbox on a 750W, and wants to know how to alter the carbs so it doesn't completely bugger up the running of the engine.
  24. I thought M-Unit Blue was Frank Zappa's youngest kid. I'll get me coat......
  25. PTFE plumbers' tape works fine on the threads of a Pingel tap, as is stated on the destructions given by Pingel. Presumably this stuff is petrol resistant. I had reservartions at first when I used this when fitting mine but have never even had a hint of a leak (yet....).
