If I remember correctly the early slabside gsxr 1052 had 34mm carbs ( tin tops) so aren't suitable but the 89/90 slingshot 1127 had 36mm carbs (plastic tops) like the bandit 1200. I think the 750 shortstroke motor in the pre98 teapot/gsxf and 88/89 gsxr 750 slingshot also used 36mm bst carbs. The RS carbs in 36mm & 38mm both use a 42mm spigot which should fit the 36mm suzuki intakes ( not mk2bsr types )

  5. It's stamped right there on the cam wheel. 451.
  6. I think I may have this issue as well. Where do I find the part # for the cam gear?

Would the intake rubbers from the 86 gsxr1100 be the correct ones ? Or should I round up some newer from a mk1 ? Thx for feedback….
  9. Opologies, senior moment, i now understand what your asking
  10. I've got standard suzuki ones on my vm33 if that helps
  11. Oh I'll fancy it alright, but I have a small window to get everything moved out of the old workshop and container and into the new one. Then sorted and set up ready to start earning again because on top of the increased costs there's a period of not earning a penny for over a month to contend with. Worth it in the end, but it's going to sting for a bit.
  12. Ok mate,i'll leave your entry in though in case you fancy a bit of down time.
  13. I'm not sure, I think they're the same set up but can't remember if they are whether the head side ID is the same. It's a very long time since I had anything to do with a GS1000.
  14. Maybe GS1000 rubbers might work or are they bolt on?
  15. Fitting a set of VM 29 Smoothbores to a 16v GSX head. Are there suitable rubbers or is it a case of pinching down the existing rubbers?
  16. Just as confirmation @PaulmI definitely won't be coming as I've just had the call about the new workshop and I should be getting the keys a week or so before then. So I'll be running around like an idiot trying to get everything moved and set up.

If it's a 2002 (mk2) you'll probably have to swap to mk1 inlets too as the later ones (bsr carbs) have a different spacing to earlier gsxr/mk1 bandits (bst carbs)
  18. Cheap 38's is going to be way better than 36's

  21. Short video of it idling and a little rev. Probably still a bit fat https://youtube.com/shorts/rJWhrDFmxP0?si=OPjBRL2MNHBxBtLJ
  22. I couldn't get all this to add up with the low compression. Like why would it be so bad if the piston rings where new, valves lapped.... so I checked timing and... bingo! Cams where off. I don't know, maybe the crank moved when they where installed I redid them and boy did it make all the difference! After some fettling with the carbs and idle i had it sitting at 1200 for minutes! Damn steady! I'm delighted! Will sync the carbs tomorrow, recheck ignition timing and compression. Take a test ride
  23. Nice looking bike that is. Fairing bracket is for mk2 faring.
  24. at last work has started on my desert rat fighter its an 89 1100 with busa swing arm and tl1000 wheel and a 750 k6/7 front end just need a front wheel discs for that front end (as money allows obviously) hope to get it done by mid summer fingers crossed
  25. My friend had exactly the same problem ( on a single cylinder engine ) and went through 3 carbs before he stuck my "leak down tester" on it. Exhaust valve leaking due to poor condition valve seat and carbon build up. Pointless trying to set carbs if the engine is not in good fettle. Who said anything about a blocked oil filter ?
  26. having an air filter on or off won't make much difference at idle with the bike stood still, the compression isn't the best but it should still run fine at that as they are all fairly equal. a balance might help if they are way out. but as Jonny said if you can, try another set of carbs.
  27. Just the standard set of four gauges with vacuum hose. Neat tip. Will try that.
  28. So pulled Brian out from the back of the garge, as its 4 weeks to the welsh classic Bike festival and track day, thought I d better see if it runs after 7 months With a new battery and some fresh super unleaded it fired up eventually, went done the by pass and back using my universal number plate This just reminded me how small and uncomfortable it is!! Its great and i love it but its just to small for a fully grown adult!! So I have decided that this will be the last run out and then ill let it go to someone whose child sized Anyone want to come and have look at it, ill be at Angelsey for both days 25/26th may.
