Bike of the Month September 2015

As a sub-genre of an elite group of motorcycles, the Turbo ET has come into its own in the past year and one in particular stands out from the crowd. This month’s Bike of the Month award goes to the busiest, most social of all the ETs in the gang – stand up and take a bow Paulm. The ‘company demonstrator’ has a lot to answer for. Oldskoolsuzuki in the news

When we launched the site nearly 2 months ago we prepared a press release on the re-launch and sent it out to the editors of all of the bike magazines. As with so may things in life it’s always who you know and not what you know that makes the difference. Thanks to Banoffee’s contacts  at Classic Motorcycle Mechanics and Dave Manning’s influence at BSH and 100% Biker we received some great coverage, Even the original site’s  founder Patrick Fonck ( MR 7/11) felt the need to share a press cutting on facebook  and say “It almost seems like a … Continue reading

Oldskoolsuzuki goes to Donington classic bike festival 2015

The Donington classic bike festival has fast become one of the largest classic bike events in Europe. As well as a massive hall full of classic and contemporary classic bikes , there are also 3 days of classic bike racing round the Donigton Park circuit. All you have to do is walk out of the main hall and you are track side. This was not the first time OSS have had a stand at the event but it was the first time since the new site was launched. The show is run by VJMC and it is well laid out … Continue reading

What a difference a week makes!

Just seven days ago we had just a handful of test group members, a few posts and  threads and a lot of work to do. A week later and we have 430 members, 340 topics and nearly 9000 posts. Our busiest section has been members projects with nearly 1000 posts. That statistic alone is the most encouraging of them all because it tells us that we have the emphasis right. We’re grateful for all of those who have given up there valuable time to share what they are building with everyone. That’s what OSS has always been about. If you … Continue reading

Bike of the Month July 2015

After so many years in the wilderness it is great to have our URL live again with a front page and a buzzing and active forum. While the Admin team that built this new site were busy running the Facebook page and plotting the return of OSS one man called Ash took the initiative to start the temporary forum. We and many other OSS junkies owe you a big fat thank you for all the work that you put in to running that forum. To celebrate the return of the site and as a way of showing our thanks to … Continue reading

Ignition components

This article has been reproduced with the permission of Ross Farnham. It was first published by Ross in 1998 http//sdsefi.com/techcomb.htm Inductive Discharge Coils – Ignition spark for motorcycle is accomplished by the iginiton coil, coils have 2 sets of windings, a primary and a secondary. A typical coil will have around 250 turns of wire on the primary and about 25,000 on the secondary for a ratio of 100 to 1. The secondary section often uses an iron core to increase its inductance. Coil resistance on the primary will be from .3 to .5 ohms usually and on the secondary, … Continue reading

A word from the wise

The site RobbyNitroz.nl was started in 1999 by a small group of friends (Robby Nitroz and Mr. 7/11) intending to log the building and modifying of their bikes. RN(S) was the result of Robby’s Streetfighterpage and the Suzuki 7/11 Boulevard joining together. As time progressed, Robby changed sides and got himself a H*nda fireblade. In 2001 Mr. 7/11 added a forum to the site, which is when things really started to take off. Then Bral joined the RN(S) team in May 2001 but Unfortunately, Bral couldn’t dedicate enough time and left the team leaving Mr. 7/11 running things on his … Continue reading

Welcome to v2.0

“Hello, my name is Rene and I am new” It was the first line of my first post to a forum which would turn out to change and enrich my life, and which would be the source of about half of the friendships I actually have in the real world at this very moment. I didn’t know it at that time, but I was already very aware of the pedigree and what OSS stood for in the digital motorcycle world that was forming in the (fairly) early days of the internet. I treaded lightly and took all the information that … Continue reading

Oldskool Oldskool, the road less travelled

John Oliver (AKA Yoshi-Johnny, AKA YJ) is a long time OSS member and Pops Yoshimura enthusiast. John is a professional bike mechanic and many will remember his iconic take on the classic Wes Cooley GS 1000. Ten years ago, when John first rolled up at an OSS gathering on his GS, for me and many others,  at the time, his bike fully embodied the true  spirit of OSS. An air-cooled 8 valve GS1000 engine and classic Wes Cooley paint job but running on modern 17″ wheels,  sporting a mono shock conversion  and a set of gold anodised upside down GSXR forks. … Continue reading
