Blue Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Do you think it be ok to make a bracket that'd be held in place by either the cam cover bolts or the cylinder bolts that are used to make cam links? Quote
bluedog59 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 That would depend on what you're going to mount on said bracket. 1 Quote
Damienga15de Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Could be good I need something to keep my coils shoved down on the plugs Quote
Blue Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 Didnt think coils were on the side of the engine Quote

Gixer1460 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Assuming these are COP's - they should be no more loose or sloppy fit than std regular plug leads - your solving a problem that doesn't / shouldn't exist. Quote

I wouldn't do it from the camcaps; the treads on those are fragile just doing their job, let alone doing more. 1 Quote
bluedog59 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Oil cooled motors don't have the cam end caps with their fragile screws. The "cam link" bolts are M8 and the cam cover ones are M7. We still need to know what this bracket will be attaching as it's rather important to giving a yes/no opinion. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Steering Damper what?.................usually attached to frame? Quote

bluedog59 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 I suppose, technically the 2 M8's would be strong enough but the potential for heat transfer causing the damper issues could be interesting. Never tried it myself. Quote
dupersunc Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Don't see why not. Bakker and others have mounted the frame off the "cam link" bolts. Don't see heat transfer as a significant issue. As I've said else where, I don't see a need for steering dampers on stock framed oilboilers. Extra weight and complexity for no benefit. Quote

Still can't fathom why you'd want to mount a damper to the engine? If you haven't got a frame to mount a 'normal' damper why not engineer a mini damper off the headstock to the top yoke or a Scott damper on the yoke to the spindle? Quote

Blue Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 I have a sprint steering damper that I thought I might be able to make use of, too long to use in front of tank! Quote
markfoggy Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Hang it off the top fairing/clock mount then. it's a muddy area with lots of cables and wires, but a few cable ties in strategic areas and should be fine. Quote
